Question About FTPing (noob question)

Ok so I have been hearing about FTPing to get files onto your xbox. When I had mine modded a few years ago my friend is the one who did it and he FTPed alot of files but never updated them UnleashX XBMC dash, etc. Now here is my question I have a PC upstairs using a wireless USB for internet. Could I plug in an ethernet cord from my xbox to my PC and FTP files like that or would I need to hook it to my router directly? Also what would be the best way to update XBMC/ UnleashX?

either hook it to the router direct

or use a crossover cable (you can get adaptors aswell) from Xbox to your PC

or use a Lan router (much like an Internet router)

cheapest option is either get a crossover or just hook direct to the router

crossover tends to be easiest because you can hook direct to a PC/Laptop so you don't need the xbox near the router

Forgot to answer your updating question

the best/quickest way is to have a direct connection via crossover and overwrite the files

make sure you don't have anything else open that may cause issues and make sure there are no windows updates wanting to reset your machine ect, basically you don't want anything to go wrong

Filezilla ftp works well for doing this

once done reset your xbox
