Question N64 WAD Injection - Still Necessary?

    Question:

With recent improvements in the Wii64 emulator, and most games running at full speed, is there anything to be gained by injecting N64 ROMs into Virtual Console .wad files anymore?

Yes, there are certain games that Wii64 isn't so great with, but from what I've read, VC wad injection has similar limitations.

    Your thoughts, please?

50:50 there is also a 3rd option much the same as wad injection though but more to do with GC N64 official emu via a couple of Zelda bonus discs 1 the disc that came with Wind Waker and the other collectors disc that contained both N64 Zelda games aswell as the 2 NES games

All of a muchness some work best with certain methods, VC has it's own nice collection and if injected into games that use the same hardware originally you are not going to have too much problems but that still leaves alot that will not work, same with emulation same with the GC method all of a muchness

Yes, that's just about what I gathered from reading various sources across the 'net. I'd forgotten about the Zelda GC emu, tho.

So, Zorlon, what you're saying is that emulation works just as well as VC wad injection (or the "Zelda" GC emu)? That one of these methods is just as successful at running N64 games as the other?

It's per game, 1 might do a game fine while the other can't and vice versa

Well, I found compatibility lists for both methods :

    WAD Injection: http://vettacossx.wordpress.com/2008...sole-channels/

    Wii64 Emulator: http://emulatemii.com/wii64/compatList/

The Injection list is a bit outdated, but I couldn't find a newer one. Based on this data, it seems to me that Wii64 has a higher compatibility, overall. Yes, there are a few games that are more playable via WAD injection, but I didn't notice a great number. Of course, this is only one man's opinion.

There is a bigger number of wads in general that run much smoother than 3rd party emulation

The compatibility list links I posted above would seem to suggest the opposite of that.... unless we're talking about official Nintendo VC WADs that haven't been injected?

However, I do agree with your above statement to some degree, because I know firsthand that Paper Mario runs much better in Virtual Console than in Wii64. After finding it "laggy" in Wii64, I downloaded it for VC, and it runs perfectly, with no lag at all.

Hm. Might be time for me to update my version of Wii64 to the latest build, and do some testing.
