The only time I ever broke a controller was during my playthrough for Dead or Alive 4 when I was trying to collect every costume. Since I suck at fighting games at times, I had to go through story mode hundreds of times with each character and on a different difficulty each time I completed that certain story mode with that certain character along with that certain difficulty each time, and fighting Alpha 152 on the maximum difficulty was completely frustrating.

Never. Wanted to smash my good old Playstation with an axe together with a friend once. After all we never did.

I used to rage so hard at my games, but I think it was that I was young and my older brother had a huge impression on me. He used to smash his controllers all the time because he thought the game was cheating just to piss him off. I mellowed way out since then. Now I usually only break them while trying to fix them.

    Thankfully NES controllers are invincible
    this

i broke 2 psx gamepads, BUT! I fixed them !
The first one decided to defy gravity and hit some kind of hard surface plastered to my rooms wall, no idea how that happened
The other one simply gave up after normal usage (was one of the old PSX ones before dual shock)

It's funny to read these stories. I've never had rage issues with games, but I always see my roomate smashing his $100 keyboard and mouse around when his gameisn't going his way. Quite entertaining to say the least.
