Default problems with different Spyro - year of the dragon ROMs

I recently got into emulation (gotta say I love it so far)

I have always wanted to play one of my old games i used to own, but i ran into trouble.

the problem is that on one rom i tried it played fine until I reached a certain point in the game (Shelia's alp level if anybody here plays/has played this game). it isn't the emulator because i tried on a different emulator and it crashed in exactly the same place
i tried another rom but on that one the sound is way ahead of the video

I am using ePSXe 1.8.0 on default settings
    i have a dual core i5 with 8GB RAM
    AMD radeon 7670m graphics card

not sure if I'm allowed to ask this but if anybody knows where to find a fully working ROM it would be useful but if not hopefully you know a way to fix my problems

    thanks in advance

Your hardware is perfect to run ePSXe so thats not a problem, I am using the same version of emulator as you so I will send the config settings I use for the game. That crashing in Shela's Alp is because of an antimod check in the game and there's one on the main screen too. Game has a LOT of glitches if a modchip is detected, I use modbo 4.0 in my system on v9 and still detected @ mainscreen so I stick to emulating that game now.

Bios used for ePSXe 1.8.0: SCPH1001.BIN
Disc image type used: .bin .cue (Clone CD image backups are said to work as well since they can read the subchannel data)

    Plugin: Pete's OpenGL2 Driver 2.9
    Author: Pete Bernert
    Card vendor: ATI Technologies Inc.
GFX card: ATI Radeon HD 3200 Graphics

    Resolution/Color:
    - 1366x768 Fullscreen - NO desktop changing (You can probably go a lot higher if you want on yours)
    - Internal X resolution: 1
    - Internal Y resolution: 1
    - Keep psx aspect ratio: off
    - No render-to-texture: off

    - Filtering: 0
    - Hi-Res textures: 0
    - TexWin pixel shader: off
    - VRam size: 128 MBytes (Yours will be higher might need to manually type entry into box)

    Framerate:
    - FPS limitation: on
    - Frame skipping: off
    - FPS limit: Auto

    Compatibility:
    - Offscreen drawing: 2
    - Framebuffer effects: 3
    - Framebuffer uploads: 1

    Misc:
    - Scanlines: off
    - Mdec filter: on
    - Screen filtering: on
    - Shader effects: 0/1
    - Flicker-fix border size: 0
    - GF4/XP crash fix: off
    - Game fixes: off [00000000]

for sound the interal ePSXe 1.8.0 plugin works fine (or should I use ePSXeQuickPlay as a frontend for the emu and the frontend can't recognize the interal sound plugin)

Eternal SPU Plugin 1.50 or 1.41

    Audio Device: Direct Sound
    Buffer size: 64
    Audio Out method: SPUAsync
    Async Mode: Smooth
    Misc all unchecked
    Gamefixes all unchecked
    Fine Tune: 0
    Reverb: Neil's

    ***Optional If using CD-ROM***
    P.E.Op.S. ASPI/IOCTL PSX CDR Driver
Interface: WK2/XP - IOCTL scsi commands
Drive: [2 : 0 : 0] Drive E: (whatever your dvd drive is mapped to)
Read Mode: BE_2 (ATAPI SPEC 2)
Caching mode: None (Haven't experimented w/ this setting yet since I have iso images on external drive)
    Misc: Unchecked
Error Handling: I have try again on error checked, count=5
    PPF Patches: None used

***Important if using Spyro 3 Year of the Dragon on CD-R or original***
    Subchannel reading:
First create a subchannel file from original disc or if using a Clone CD image you can convert the .SUB file data to an SBI file
I would put the sbi in the same folder as the disc image for convenience.
Next choose use subchannel SBI/M3S info file (recommended) and navigate to where the SBI file is.

Might also be useful to check out Gladitor's settings that he uses on psxdatacenter

    Good Luck,

The (E) version of the game has copy protection, like HaloSlayer said. To get around that, get the anti copy protection patch Here, and put it into your "patches" folder (which should be in your ePSXe install folder).

I thought I forgot to mention something, oh well lol. When I ran those patches they just played the music and stayed at the PS1 boot logo screen. I tried the patches on the NTSC-U version though. Did OP say what version he had? I assumed that he was using the NTSC-U version. Anyways the disc image .bin .cue works for me hopefully OP posts back and lets us know when they get it working.

Try with the configuration posted in the PSX Datacenter for the game. The NTSC-U versions of Spyro games are not protected, only the PAL ones are...
