Default end of the world? yeah right >.>

as if humans from around 5k years ago could predict the end of the world its common sense when you think about it that doing such a thing is at its very best a big guessing game.

my guess is they, like so many others, picked what they thought was most likely to happen out of a series of possible futures and said that's what is going to happen... how stupid.

...how long till the next idiotic theory comes along? i already know it'll pretty much always be wrong if we humans make the prediction.

The Mayans didn't predict the end of the world. The way that their calender worked, today was the day that it would roll over into a new cycle. Someone else somewhere along the line decided to interpret that in some way as saying that the world was coming to an end. The Mayans viewed the completion of a cycle as something to celebrate, but were hopeful that the world would continue relatively unchanged for several thousand years.

The closest I've heard from any even semi-legitimate source for an "end of the world" prediction would be a change in perception at the end of the cycle.

Anyone else who actually believed that today was going to be the end of the world is just an idiot. I can safely say that, with the exception of some sort of asteroid on a collision course with the world, any day that they predict the end of the world is a day I can sleep in and miss absolutely nothing.

It's 'in' to predict the apocalypse. I don't know if the one predicting it intends it this way, but it's essentially just to create sensation. How much money does the media make on coverage of this bullshit? Too much, that's for sure. Even negative attention is still attention. Shit should be ignored.

Well, the 2012 film made a lot of money, I guess they don't give a fuck whether it's bullshit. All they care about is profit.

The world ended a long time ago, we're just in a fake reality that's being controlled by someone of higher power. We're probably sleep in some kind of place similar to purgatory

Lol, I hear people thought the world was going to end on new years of 2000

just now realized that y2k probably means year 2000

    Welcome to marketing.

I'm pretty sure that's why they made a movie about it, and a fair few of the crew members didn't believe it was happening themselves. It was a no-brainer to capitalize off a much-hyped event that was supposed to be dawning upon us, it generated that much more interest.

Can't remember for sure, but I think it was Rasputin who theorised the world will end in 2000. After nothing happened, though, I didn't really look into this apocalypse shit again.

There are so many predictions of the end of the world,

You have 2000, sometime in the 1800s if i remember correctly, 2006, the thing with that priest back in 2011, and now this

You can't predict the end unless its practically staring you in the face, seriously
