Default Do you guys still buy anything?

Because I was going to start a thread asking who still buys music, but then again, I don't buy magazines, either - I can download those publications. I don't have Sky because anything I want to watch, I can stream online for free on-demand. I do buy games, though.

Are you guys like me in any way?

Despite the thread title, I'm talking aside from the obvious life expenses such as food, bills, etc. Unless you don't pay for those, either, in which case feel free to divulge!

I buy most everything I love (eventually) when I have money. I feel too guilty not buying things I like when I have the money to buy them. These days piracy for me is mainly a way to try before I buy, to enjoy things that are just obscenely rare and hard to find, or to pick up things I know I'm going to buy anyway ahead of time. Like... two years ago, I remember pirating Xenoblade even though I had already pre-ordered it, simply because I knew it would get to me faster as a download. :'D

Increasingly, though, I don't pirate that much simply because I... er... don't really do many of the things you can pirate very often anymore. I don't really watch that many movies / anime / TV shows, I hardly play any games (and the ones I do play tend to just be replays of ones I like), and most of the music I love I've either bought or have access to through the radio, already downloaded MP3s and my dad's extensive collection of classical music. Heck I've been living in Japan for three months now, which is a pretty fabulous place for media junkies, and since coming here, I've only bought one DVD and four games. I guess the one thing I do still buy a lot of media-wise is books, as I think reading is pretty much a lifelong habit for me. :'D But aside from that, most of my money these days goes on clothes, cute trinkets and socialising with my friends. I bet teenage me would think I've totally sold out.

I buy stuff pretty much exclusively.

About the only things I pirate anymore are music and TV shows. Music I have no excuse for -- I really should pay for the music that I listen to. TV shows, I don't feel that bad about since I'm really just missing the air date -- I pay for Internet and I pay for cable TV. If it's on one of the channels that I get, but I forget about the show/am working and have no means of recording it, then I'm going to download it. Yeah, it sucks that my viewing numbers don't show up in the totals, but that's about the only downside for that one.

Any show that is on a paid-for channel (HBO, Showtime, etc), I'll usually download when it first airs and buy the DVDs when they come out.

I haven't downloaded a movie in quite a while -- most of the movies I watch now are on Netflix, and I haven't downloaded a game in even longer.

Emulation/pirating games was great for when I was a broke teenager, but I have money now. A bit harder to justify to myself.

I don't justify anything. Money or no I download anything and everything like crazy. Only exception is if I have a current system. Which I don't. So yeah.

It's kind of become a hobby of mine to download stuff. I collect games, music, anime, movies, tv-shows, etc. and archive them.

Yeah, I do. Steam makes it very easy to spend money on games via its crazy sales.

I've always paid for my games, I cant imagine being a gaming pirate ever. However the last album I bought was Rammstein's Volkerball thing, so as you can imagine its been awhile since I've paid for music. I also download the majority of my comics, but only because I can only afford to buy one stream, so I do that but I usually download the issues that I buy anyway. I download food and shelter, and yesterday I wasn't arsed going to the bathroom so I downloaded an app that allows me to pee on my phone.

Buy? What the hell FOR? I only recently learned of emulation, so for the better part of 40 years I pumped THOUSANDS (millions?) into companies such as Big N, Sega, and others. Shhhiiiittttt, I figure that after bleeding-out $49.99 RETAIL for HUNDREDS of games over the years, those conglomos have ENOUGH of my bread.

That being said, I DO buy the things that I am completely enamored with, but typically second-hand. DVD films/series being good examples of this. Cant really justify (stupidly) paying $19.99 for a film that would otherwise cost me $1-$2, used (oftentimes barely) at the pawn shops. First world problems, truly.

Also, I have been know to pay foolish amounts for certain cream-of-the-crop items: obsession-worthy GBA games, certain action figures/toys, and specific comic books/mags.

This is what I do, and I almost always buy it new (at a discount of course) to show my support for the show.

    BUYING USED = PIRACY

JK of course, just had to be the voice of aids there.

Pretty much all the pawn shops are $2 a movie now and they will often give you a discount for buying a bunch. Some here are $2 on GC games. I tried to get into GC collecting but piracy is so easy and flipping was too tempting.

So yeah, I'd say I'm a mild pirate. The only thing I pirate and almost never buy is music, because it would cost more to ship albums (a lot of stuff I like was never released state side) than the cost of the albums themselves, which is just inane to me.

unless its pc or anything PS2 generation or newer i download it. i am limited by this crappy monthly bandwidth cap of 12gb/month.

think the last game i actually bought was a few months back, dragon age origins iirc and it was a defective disc

I usually download games for nes-n64, the outdated systems. i just bought games for my PSP and DS, that's where the majority of my money goes. I only download game or anime music, I buy cd's pretty regularly.

This sums up what I would have said about myself except I use Amazon Prime for older TV shows and still have a backlog of Blu-rays and DVDs to fully watch.

I've bought maybe one ps3 game I believe, and pretty much shared a few and the rest were borrowed or given. I've bought nearly all of the ps2 games I've had over the years, with the only exceptions being some borrowed/given games. I could probably name all of them since there wasn't that many lol. I've bought super smash bros melee at least 3 times over the past 4 years. Just bought 2 ps2 games very recently. My pc was never all that good when it comes to games, like gta 4 and prototye (not even my old pc), so i never really bothered downloading pc games. I know I downloaded some ps3 games a few times though. I streamed tv shows for a while after the cable got disconnected. I'd do nothing but watch shows like burn notice and house m.d. until I got tired when I had the time. I've downloaded probably a total of 10 ps1 roms if not less. The main ones i'ved played were either ones from my childhood or ones I never got to play before, like final fantasy tactics (later got that on ps3 ) and marvel vs capcom. The only pokemon game I bought was pokemon emerald. Got stolen at school not too much later a few years ago. I was telling the secuirty guard that I paid 40 dollar for the game, and he told me I learned a 40 dollar lesson . I've had them all at one point in my life, but could never get the whole collection. They all disappeared except my emerald and one of my firereds. I could never get a copy of leafgreen, although I've only met one person that had it and that was years ago. the pokemon games were the first games i emulated once i found out about it in 2007 i believe

This is my most recent purchase in 30 minutes lol: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/157..._ya_os_product

Hoping to get that Looney Tunes Golden Collection DVD set someday :'(

i did buy new super mario bros wii for a relative though yesterday i think

Well if we're talking about pricey whores and cheap booze then yes, I purchase quite a lot. Games, they have to be worth the money. It's hard to spend $60 on another lump of doo doo, I have enough of them lying around here as it is.
I'm listening but I don't hear very much...
