Having trouble with the Pokemon Black DS ROM

I recently got the ROM for pokemon Black from this website and started played it.After grinding in the first grass area for a bit, I realized, none of my pokemon are gaining XP....at all....wtf!? Anyone have the problem and know how to fix it? Even if I have to cheat to fix it I don't care, I just wanna play the game through.

is it supposed to be smaller when patched? the one I got was 100MB+

The patched game is compressed, you'll have to extract it using Winzip, that way you'll get the .nds file. Can't tell it's size, haven't really downloaded it.

Awesome thanks. Also while on the subject, is there any way to cheat in this game since it's an emulation? To get the special event pokemon that you could only during said events and such. Any kind of cheat really.

^ Pokegen and Wonder Cards. Find them at Project Pokemon. If you're playing on an emulator, that's all you'll need for event Pokemon. If playing on a DS, I think Action Replay is needed.
