    Default mame romset update question

    Hi,

this is my first post, I bumped into this great site and downloaded the complete mame romset for1.38 plus all updates up to 1.47.
I did my homework and searched the website, found the nice thread about how to update and then studied clrmamepro and watched tutorials and started using it.

I however am a little confused and was hoping for a small clarification

As you know we have a lots of update folders from 1.38 to 1.47.

    should I do the following:
    rescan
    rebuild - new update folder i.e. 138 to 139
    rescan
rebuild - from clrmamepro mame backup folder
    rescan
    rebuild - new update folder i.e. 139 to 140
    rescan
rebuild - from clrmamepro mame backup folder
    rescan
    rebuild - new update folder i.e. 140 to 141
    rescan
rebuild - from clrmamepro mame backup folder
    [...]

    or simply the following?
    rescan
    rebuild - new update folder i.e. 138 to 139
    rebuild - new update folder i.e. 139 to 140
    rebuild - new update folder i.e. 140 to 141
rebuild - from clrmamepro mame backup folder
    rescan

Also, I didn't download nor point to any .dat file, is this ok?

Thanks for your help, next step will be to configure my new xbox360controllers with xpadder and mame and plug the pc to the tv and voila'!

    The faster way is:
Create a directory and put your "v0.138 complete romset" inside.
Download Mame 0.147, and load the exe with Ctrlmame to obtain a "datfile"
Go on setting and set the roms paths (and samples too), enable "make the backup to folder" option
Go on scanner and select all the <check fix> options (missing, case, unneded, name, etc.)
Start a new scan, and answer yes, yes all on message boxes.

Now extract your update 0.138 to 0.139 to a new directory
Go to "Rebuilder" and drag and drop the update (check if the "destination" match your mame dir)
    Repeat with all the updates.
Also drag and drop the Ctrlmame "backup" directory

Then return to "Scanner" and do a New scan.

    Done!

Note: For a complete romset you'll need audio samples and CHDs file...

Thanks, I followed your instructions and went through fine.
I'm now trying to remove uncomplete sets but clrmamepro doesn't allow me to. right clicking the list (after scanner) and selecting move to a dest folder doesn't do anything.
I read somewhere I had to uncheck the fix missing option, I tried unsuccessfully.

My idea would be to temporarily remove uncomplete sets, missing samples and chds so to have a barebone list of fully working games.
Then in the future chase the missing samples and chds.

You can find all the samples (and other mame addons) here:

    http://www.progettosnaps.net/

I never moved the files around, but try "move/all listed incomplete sets" or "move/all listes [not fixed] sets".

Also you can save a have/miss list, use it to build a batch file (like "move <gamename.zip> "c:\mame\incomplete roms\<gamename>.zip")

    Thanks WitchHunter!

I tried using "move/all listed incomplete sets" or "move/all listes [not fixed] sets" but nothing happens, no files are moved or copied or deleted.
I heard somebody else having this problem and they suggested disabling the fix option fix_missing but that doesn't seem to change. I'll tak ea look at the list and then parse somehow, thanks for the tip.

One last thing, I updated mame to 1.47u1 and was taking a look at the progettosnaps.net website and was wondering if I need to download the .dat for 1.47u1 myself or if clrmamepro derives that from the exe.

    Thanks again

Mame 0.147u1 (now 0.147u2) are beta releases, you can download the source, update to u1, u2 and compile it or download the compiled exe from various websites (http://www.emucr.com/ have most emulators; betas and subversion).

The beta introduce new games, clones, fix or add new bugs etc. You can find a new beta each 2-3 weeks and download 50-500 mb (or wait 3-6 month for a stable release and download 1-3 gb).

All the dat files came from the exe; just replace the old MAME.EXE with a new version double click on your mame profile and Ctlrmame detect a "new" version import the data, then scan, fix as always.

The samples are marked as 147u1 as the u1 introduce a new game, and a new sampleset.
