    Default Painting consoles?

Hello guys! It's me, the guy who asks silly questions with likely simple answers.

I want to ask something that doesn't seem to be asked often. I'll recieve a Mega Drive with a Mega CD which I bought for cheap, next week. The aestethical status of it leaves quite a bit to be desired, but the price for it was just too tempting to let it go.

As you can see, it's scratched pretty badly and has some dust/dirt. First thing I'll do after test-running it will be dissasembling it and clean every piece separately. Thing is, that won't solve the scratches' problem.
Is there any simple way to paint it over and get it to look like it did when it was new?

I've seen some videos of guys painting old consoles and the results for them seem to be quite satisfactory, so...

First clean it then paint it then wax it.

    Not realy no.

Take the case apart to start with
Clean the entire case (make sure it is dry before doing anything else)
There are fillers/putty that can fill in scratches (Dig around for what is best I wouldn't know nowerdays)
Mask all the logo's and text (the hardest part and masking does not always stay in place either so take care there)
    Spray the shell (black obviously)
    Demask the logo's ect
Wax it if you like, it's more for protection than anything else

Phantasy Star Online Episodes 1 & 2 - online quests in offline mode packs [COMPLETE]

That's simple enough for me, lol.

One more question, if you don't mind. What type of black should I use? Matte, shiny...? Any code or paint brand that you believe is closest to the original one?

I would go for gloss personly it was originally a glossy finish to it and the lesser glossy bits are only like that because of the pattern on the plastic

I havn't done a respray for years so I don't even remember the brand/type I used back then

P.S. I do want to see before and after pics though

My last console mod I didn't even paint it, it was my PS2, basicly I had a silver case and a black one (i.e. I had both a silver and black console, one was broken), now I have a PS2 with a black base and silver top and one pad the same the other is black on the top and a silver underside

Umm, I've painted zero consoles, so take this advice for what it's worth. Maybe before you jump to paint try wiping down the the scratches with MEK or Clear Cleaner. Used on ABS and PVC plastics it'll actually debond and basically melt the outermost layer. So the scratches may simply melt away, and you might not need paint at all. Although using a product like this on a shiny plastic will leave you with a matte surface, but you're already looking at doing worse. And if you are going to paint this is a good preparation step for plastic painting anyways.
*PSA* Wii Redump collector's can now unscrub ISO files. So scrubbed games can now be verified. You can find the program to do this here
