yes. i just got one from the store and i'm gonna mod it later on. it'd have been more expensive to build it as it is from scratch.

Oh, no. I have built several PC's with parts that I got for free. If you want a decent computer though...yes, yes it will cost a lot.
I chose AMD for my processor, so I went the cheaper direction, but I have still spent $450 this past week which is only what I put into the tower. I also spent money on a keyboard and a new 20" monitor. Sometime soon, I am also going to be grabbing an SSD which I meant to do along with everything else, but I spent more than I had originally planned on the Video card.

How would it have been more to build it yourself?

Oh. I was just wondering if it's cheaper to build a computer than to get one at best buy.

about 200 or so more, WITHOUT an OS.
CPU 100, MoBO 79, HDD 199, DVD Burner about 20 bucks, GPU between 79 and 199, RAM 99. this is just from what i remember, not modern pricing. adding Home Premium spikes the price by about 150 or so

I spent just shy of $800 on my current rig. Mid tower, AMD quadcore 3.60 GHz, 8GB RAM, and a decent video card (which I plan on upgrading in a month or so). OS, HDD and CD drive added to the rest of the cost, though I was debating whether to get a SSD instead, but I was on a budget. Next computer, for sure, SSD.

Wasn't going for anything fancy, so no water cooling, bright LED lights, or mass amounts of fans (I have four at the moment).

Same here, but that was five years ago and now this POS isn't worth anything.

Pretty and cheap. I just hope they aren't too loud once they arrive.

My room glows a faint blue from the many different light sources in my room. I figured I didn't need anymore.

Nice. I'm using dual 120mm Excaliburs mounted in the front. The tower has two built in stock fans on the top and back. Overall, it's a little loud, but I don't mind.

My new apartment has a bedroom and separate study, so I can sleep easy.
Besides, I will be building my own fan control unit into one of the front 5.25" face plates. Along with a few pots to slow them down when Its idle, I will also throw a switch or two in there to shut them off if need be.
