Default The Car Thread: Talk About Anything Automotive.

Deadlegion told me to do it.

Anyway, the idea of the thread is for us, that are into our cars to talk about cars in here. Since we haven't got a dedicated thread, and are clogging up the hangout for people that don't want to read about it... Here it is! The place to discuss cars.

I thought I'd start off by saying there's someone on Facebook selling this Vectra 2.5L V6, 100,000ish miles.

£900, but she's willing to take £700 without the alloy wheels. I think if I were to buy it (which I'm not - although I would be interested if insurance wasn't a piss-take.) I'd remove that front bumper, it's too boy-racer-ish. Put a stock Vectra bumper on. Debadge any "V6" or similar badges from the rear. Those wheels are too aggressive looking as well. I'd probably put some nice old fashioned wheel trims on the steel wheels she would be including.

Black steel rims are the way to go dude...no need for trims imo.
And yeah, debadged (even if you do it carefully there may still be faint noticable marks 'cos the paint underneath has been covered).
Maybe even lower it 1"...but you may not be able to do that on the cheap yourself

Would it be possible to get rid of the rear wing as well? Might be easier to source a spare standard boot from the same colour car and fit it yourself.

I could probably get a whole Vectra 1.6 - 2 litre to use as parts for about £300

But I quite like that spoiler, it's small and not in your face. And it doesn't scream bad man.

That Vectra really would be a lot of car for £700. The amount of cars I'd buy if I had around £10,000 in the bank. So I could buy it for £700 spend probably £500-1000 on it in parts and drive it for a while, sell it and repeat with another quick, cheap car.

This thread is NOT a regular hangout. Do NOT post in here if it's not car related. Your post will be deleted.

And no this thread wasn't made because of a member. It was made for us to talk about cars from time to time without clogging up the regular hangout with the posts. We all know like 90% of the people here don't give a crap about cars...

Removing the spoiler is just a personal thing.
I know it doesn't necessarily mean hoon, but I just prefer cars without anything like that now.

Something else I didn't mention, and I assume people don't do it all the time over there because the climate is different:

Having the window glass professionally tinted to the legal limit.

No thank you. Definitely not necessary over here, and it makes your car look suspicious to the coppers. What are you trying to hide, they wonder.

    It's different here.
You really do need it...that sun really burns (not only people but car interiors)
Many of the cop cars have it too anyway...and they don't look at every car with tinted windows as being suspicious.
It's body kits, huge wheels, loud exhausts and loud sound systems that draw their attention.
And the P plates young drivers have to display

SOOOO glad that isn't necessary here. Because I won't be displaying them, that's for sure.

Had a look at a 1966 Ford Falcon recently.
    289ci (4.7l) & auto.
Needs a shitload of body work done, tha auto is slipping badly and I'm pretty sure there are some problems with the differential (axles may be salvageable though).
A manual conversion is needed...probably the pedal box from a manual car + a Supra 5 speed conversion kit.

    Here's a pic of a GT version:

The one I've looked at is a Falcon 500 (pretty much a base model), but the drive train was changed years ago, and it's had Fairmont bits added (seats and interior), plus a GT dash cluster. Oh, and it's a more recent Ford burgundy colour (not a standard colour for back then afaik).
    No badges.
    Tinted windows.
Wheels are currently Centreline copies (which need to be removed ffs!), they look like this:

I probably should have taken some pics, but I only had my old shitty phone with me anyway

A large car by most European standards, but it isn't as big as large American cars.
Anyway, I've had several different model Falcons over the years...even worked in a garage that specialised in Fords for a couple of years, so I know many of these cars pretty well.
    And yeah, it's old

There's a good few Mk4 Astra SRIs for sale. On a local Facebook car selling page, that is.
