There's a guy that parks in the car park at work (or it may even be a woman, never seen the owner) that keeps parking up an Abarth 500.

You don't need power steering with tiny little cars than weigh less than 800kgs.
But if that's what you want, you should get an auto as well

Alternatively, Inferno could get a real car.

They don't look too bad imo.......for modern Fiats anyway.
I'm assuming they look exactly like the ones we have here though.

By this I assume you mean something North American with a truck engine.
Yeah, he'd have fun trying to park a pig like that in the UK

For my first car I don't want to move too far away from what I learnt in, I don't want to crash or anything like that. So PAS, ABS, manual box (I'm no woman), etc. I think in about 7-10 years I'll be moving onto the classics.

Fuck traction control, ABS, PAS, fuck it all!

I don't see why I can't just buy an Escort XR3i (mk4) and have that for a first car. But apparently 1.6 litre engines are too powerful for a first car.

First car I had was only a 1.6l (but it was given to me).
First car I bought for myself had a 4.1l engine.
