Default Playing Games Using External Storage

I have a few emulators downloaded on my desktop internal hard drive. I would like to copy these emulators/roms over to some kind of external storage and then connect that device to a laptop for playing the games. There are lots of different kinds of storage like USB Flash Drives, ExpressCard, Memory Stick, SD Cards, and DVD R disks. I'm sorta computer illiterate and have no idea what is the best option. What do you recommend?

All of them are good, and It always depend on what you're trying to play.
Nes- DS Self contained cartridges (Size comparison in files only) I'd recommend a Flash Drive.
CD based emulators, a medium sized Extertnal Hard Drive(if it allows .iso boots) Or CD-R/DVD-R Discs, just for safe keeping.
But it's all up to you.

The price of hard-drives has skyrocketed recently. Yes, even external USB ones.

The good news? Flash memory is cheaper than ever. Pick up a decent sized (32GB?) SD card, or USB flash drive.

I noticed USB flash drives & SD cards have different MB/sec speeds. Would I experience lag playing Sega CD/Genesis games with a low MB/sec speed or does that number only mean how fast information is downloaded into the device?

It really wouldn't make too much a difference if your processor is capable of the added workload and download/upload times (what little there is)
Sega CD & Genesis works just fine.

As long as it's not stored on a cd or dvd,or the media used to store the emultors and games is re-writeable (you can move things on and off of the media) then it shouldn't matter too much unless whatever you're using is old. And if you're using pcsx2, then make sure that you use the "binary" version and not the installer.

    Don't revive a thread that's over a month old.
