problem is the ps3 is in my room and the router is in the livingroom which is downstairs.
You just need a long cable
90-100 metres is the limit for cat5e cable length iirc.
If you need more than that, you'll probably need a network switch or repeater in between 2 cables.
Installing wall plates and cable in the walls/floors is a more permanent option, but you need to know what you're doing (power lines, water and gas pipes). And if you're renting it's unlikely you'd be allowed to do this yourself anyway.
Spoiler warning:
orrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr you can pick up a powerline adapter, i use it in my room for my xbox / computer uses your electricity as a cable plug one in your room and one downstairs by your router and plug the ethernet cables in and your sorted.
