"Less than $1000" - So, what IS your budget? Less than $1000 ranges from $0.01 - $999.99, so...

Well I would Highly recommend building your own system. It is easy, cheaper, more efficient (because you get your exact needs) and basically you get to show it off XD (Pride). If your looking to build your own system I recommend and AMD CPU/APU as they have a very good price to performance ratio. As for store bought PCs I would recommend ordering from --- ( --- ), you can easily choose your exact parts and customize it how you feel and they will build it and ship it to you.

The market for prebuilts is abysmal, all of them are prone to problems because of certain components they cheap out on to cut production costs. I'd definitely go for a build. I'll second going for an AMD build, great for gaming and not too much of a bank buster. Intel has more powerful processors, but they are also more expensive as well. Not sure if I can link to components for a build suggestion - if so i'll list a good affordable build within that criteria for you later. Maybe a mod can clarify?

It depends what you require in terms of computing, my current build using second hand parts and a HP motherboard will add to about NZD $250/$300 basically it's got a 250Gb hard drive and soon going to have a 3Ghz core 2 duo and a mid range graphics card. For a grand you could get a very good PC, although really you probably only need to spend about $600/$700 to get a decent system.

If you're in the US and really anywhere near $1000 to work with, then you've got more than enough to build yourself a pretty damn nice rig. As most of the posters above have said, buying a prebuilt computer is generally a terrible idea if you've got a single technical bone in your body. They're almost always overpriced, and if they aren't then they're skimping on quality somewhere.

If you've got a working desktop, you can salvage the optical disc drives from it, as they're hardly ever used aside from installing your OS nowadays. The HDD you may be able to take if it's a SATA. If you're wanting this to be top of the line, you'll probably want to get a semi-small SSD to install the OS and any often-played games to anyways, then you'd just use the HDD for storage of games where load times aren't an issue and media files.

Other than that, all I can really say is that the above posters are right about AMD being better power per dollar, and to make sure you do your research before choosing any single part to be part of your build. Look for "common issues" with the model numbers, check ratings and reviews, and look around for compatibility issues with any other parts you've completely decided on.

Also, helpful tool: Newegg's PSU calculator
Decide on all the other parts (aside from the case) first, then look for a PSU. Use this tool to decide how much wattage you need. And when buying a PSU, make sure to go at least a little bit over that amount, because any extra peripherals or drives you add later will bump the power usage up bit by bit.

I've used this site before for information on computer parts, and it's great for building your own computer, you should give it a try.

The hell happened to my post? Why was it deleted with no warning? Guess I'll just post it again.

"I think that the problem with this video is it is highly derivative of many popular bands within the genre. Although when viewed on its own merits, it does have a deeper groove. However what it has in groove, it lacks in originality. One can't help but be reminded of such bands as Pearl Jam, White Zombie, Suicidal Tendencies and other bands that bear the mantle of so called "Alternative Rock". One is even reminded of Lorie Anderson when she wore curlers. Hehehmhm! This video speaks less to the heart and more to the sphincter. In closing, I think Korn would do well to learn more from -"

It was deleted cos a post containing just a picture of an old C64 in a thread where the OP is asking for help was considered spam. We are less tolerant about spam in help sections than we are in other parts of the forums.
If you were to get a warning is cos you are receiving points, which isn't the case.

It was a joke, and the post stood for at least two weeks before anyone noticed it, or anyone else replied to the thread for that matter. I hardly see the harm in it, but okay. I'll make sure to add an amusing anecdote along with my pictures from now on.

It has been deleted for almost two weeks now. It's not that there were no words in your post but the fact that this is a help section.

Anyway, this was already an old thread and the OP stopped visiting this site when we asked him not to post more warez links. We can close this now.
