Legend of Mana Freezing

So, I've tried out the Legend of Mana roms and they keep freezing at the same point. Just in the beginning after you set the mailbox down on the map it freezes either after the cutscene or when you try to skip the cutscene. I truly have no idea what's wrong and I REALLY want to play this game again.

Did you tried with the configuration posted for the game in the Playstation Datacenter?
