How did you save the game? Anyhow...
To save your game, select Progress Log, as shown in screenshot (red box) above. To continue a saved game, reboot the game and on the title screen you'll get the "CONTINUE" message. Select this to continue where you saved.
Or you could also use ZNES great SaveStates feature which literally takes a snapshot of your current progress. More information right here.
