Anyone got any opinions on it?
That sucks :/ What do you get when you turn it on, it does nothing or a yellow light appears briefly?

When I turn it on I get a message saying the ps3 is checking the file system for errors, after it checks the file system for errors it tries to boot normally and instantly switches off THEN the red light starts flashing and continues flashing.

Do PS3s work at all without hard drives? I'm guessing not.

Do you not have an old SATA/spare SATA 2.5" drive you can test the hard drive theory with?

I read online and I'm not sure if this is true that you can take the hard drive out, let it boot off the mobo and if the ps3 reports no problems then you can blame the hard drive, although I'm not sure if this will work.

No I don't have a spare hard drive, I might have to buy one, the cheapest laptop hard drive I can find online is a 120 gig one for €68.

Wow, expensive. Do you have any spare 3.5" drives? Because you can get SATA extenders I believe for the fat PS3, so you could use a 3.5" drive just to test it isn't completely dead. May be cheaper than the price of a 120GB drive.

Does it access to the recovery menu? If it does you could try to restore corrupt files.

That sounds like a good idea Dan, also I may PM Beelzebub anyway since he fixes tons of PS3s.

Hopefully you won't have to fork out £££ for a new PS3.

    Or €€€ in your case.

I wish someone would give me an Amiga 1200 with an accelerator card installed though, do I look like I have £250 to blow on a 20 year old computer?
