I rather like the Wii Nunchuk+Wiimote, because I don't cave to cramp my hands together.
Classic Controller because the sticks and the d-pad are both good for 2d fighters and fps.
360 controller because everything's in the perfect place. If 360 controllers had PS3 dpads, it might be the perfect controller.
I thought it was one of the console's strongest points? 2D fighting at least.
I promise to punch myself in the guts later for using this source, but there truly are some nice games in there. Sort by genre, Ctrl+f "Fighting". Have fun.

The only fighter I knew about on Saturn was SFA2 Gold.
That's the only one I ever saw, ever
Edit: After a little bit of searching I see there were a lot of fighters, but I already owned Dalkstalkers and SFA3 on psx at the time along with Samurai Shodown III

I'd have to say my favorite gamepads are the SNES controller and the dual shock 2.
I love the Neo Geo controllers with microswitches in the D-pad: clickety clickety clack.
I also got a nice fighting controller for the PS3 that has good microswitches in the 6 face buttons. Love that one too.
I'd say the Dreamcast one, because of the VMU. The classic SNES and the Dual Shock are of course the most comfortable and classy in their design. But I love the improvement in pads between the first X-Box and the 360. A way more ergonomical design.
It's probably the Dual Analog/Dual Shock family for me as well. Looking at the ol' genealogy, I can see how the Dreamcast worked well, but that second analog stick for camera or other works is really quite useful. The N64 was really awkward for simultaneous d-pad/analog use, which is probably the reason more games didn't insist on it. The old Atari remotes are kind of nostalgic, but I can't really call them good, per se, not when we've come this far since then. The Dual Shocks are just ergonomically superior, I think, and permit the use of all buttons fairly, with the possible exceptions of the L3/R3 buttons that few use.
the snes controller was my first and i like it the most. simple n handy
Guys.... mind including the reasons why you prefer controller X Y or Z?
The entire point wasn't to make a list; it was to say "hey I'm a 3D adventure and 2D shoot-em-up nut so PS1 and Saturn controllers are obvious choices for me because they're comfortable and blablablablabla"
Not just "mine is A, B and/or C."
Thanks

My favorite controllers are the PS2 Dual shock controller and the SNES controller. They're both really comfortable in my hands and very easy to use. Honorable mention goes to the PSX controllers and the NES controller.
