    Default Xenogears issues, epsxe 1.7.0

hoping this doesn't happen later but near the start of the game when your coming down from uziki's house in the mountains (first gear fight in the game), the entire scene in the village up to and after the cutscene are nothing but a black screen... well, it does change colors but its just blank while the speach boxes for everyone works fine, same in the fight.

anyone know a solution? if i can solve this now it'd save trouble later on in case something similar happens later in the game (can't play with the screen blank obviously)

just passed that section and aside from the above problem it looks to be working normally, i've no clue why that section messes up in that way
    ------------------------
got another problem similar to the above one, i just reached the sargasso underwater cave area (near the end of disc 1) and after entering the dungeon i can't see a thing, even the compass isn't visible.

long story short upon entering the dungeon the entire screen is black, its normal when you bring up the menu (square button) but otherwise a blank black screen, anyone know a solution? can't finish the game till i get through this dungeon and i can't do that as is so i'm stuck till this problem is solved (never even beat this game before)

    ah, one moment...

pc specs: Windows 7 home premium 64-bit (offtopic but this alone has given me difficulty with older pc games before )

    Pentium(R) Dual-Core CPU T4400 @ 2.20GHzx2

    4GB ram

for the emulator heres what i've been using, i use that pec program for gameshark codes but i doubt that really affects much,

    ePSXe 1.7.0
video plugin: Pete's DX6 D3D Driver 1.77 with fast settings but in windowed mode

never really bothered messing with anything aside from the video plugin actually

    Are framebuffer effects enabled...?

If - for some reason - your card can't handle it, you could try a software plugin.

Laptop? What is your graphic card actually? Enable 0x0002 under the Special Gamefixes.

If your card do support opengl, then it is better to use Pete's OpenGL2, if not, use Soft Plugin instead.
Try using the old version of ePSXe as well, 1.5.2

for Roux!'s suggestion, if you mean unfiltered framebuffer updates then yes that box is already checked so that working.

meganova, just checked the box for 0x0002 in those settings and testing it now...

and that didn't fix it, as for my videocard i'm not sure what kind it is actually. i got this laptop at wal-mart earlier this year so its whatever came preinstalled (been saying i need a better card for months now but oh well)

dumb browser dumb me, looks like i ticked the box for 0x0002 but not the box that activates those settings, trying a 2nd time now, 2nd attempt also failed (least i got the settings right that time)

It is an integrated card then, have you try different video plugins? and old version of ePSXe?

I have finished this game long time ago, on 1.6.0 and Soft Plugin with default settings, if I remember correctly.

also make sure you load from a hard save or start a new game as save states save the state of the emulator i.e.you have a save state where 0x0002 is unchecked you change that where 0x0002 is checked start game load state you have done nothing because you loaded the emulator back into the state it was in previously being with 0x0002 unchecked despite the fact that you changed it.

also whenever a blackscreen error occurs try pressing f7 to switch from the main plugin to the opsoft plug and then back again after the cut scene.

There is a difference between ignorance and stupidity ignorant people can be taught
stupid people need to be shot.
