    Default Getting new laptop

im getting a new laptop, and need some advice to which one i should get or which ones i should stay away. my budget is $600-$700.

there are so many brands and i dont know which one to choose. i have use mostly desktops. things that i will like on new laptop mostly speed, battery life.
i dont mind space because ill probably get a external HD. computer will be mostly to browse the net, maybe install photoshop and a movie maker.

    brands that i saw
    Sony
    Toshiba
    Acer
    HP
    Gateway
    Dell

also is there a big difference between Intel® Core™ i5 and Intel® Core™ i3. should i look for processors brand (inter - amd) or processor speed?

    thanks for the help

My last two laptops have been Acers (including the one that I'm using right now) and I've never had any problems with them. That's the only brand I can recommend, since it's the only one that I've ever used.
As for the difference between the Intel i series processors, check out this article: http://www.brighthub.com/computing/h...les/65861.aspx

It really all depends on what you are going to be using your laptop for. I have an i5 in mine and it runs like a dream. I would kill for an i7, though.

I second the Acers. I've had mine for a while, and though it was rather low-end when I got it, it is my baby now that i've put money into it.

Yea out of those I support Acer cause I used it briefly and Dell cause I own it for 3 years now and it works like charm.

All the others are out of your budget for sure, they're expensive brands.

Try Dell discounts, sometimes you can get 40% off just subscribe for daily mail. Choose parts online and order, that's what I did. 750$ on 40% off - 3 yrs ago + Original OS.

    regards.

-1 for Acer here there boards most of the time are made of crap. some models are ok and some are just made to fail. This is my own personal experience though.

I Do stand behind Lenovo, Dell and Toshiba though (Got a about 10 year old Dell here still running great all its needed was a new battery)

Out of your choices I would go with this one if your going to get an acer.

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...pk=AS5750-6634

for an extra $25 above your top listed price you could get this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16834220865

The asus has the better graphic card and processor the 460m is a quad core at 2.53ghz, where the acers 2410m is a dual core at 2.30ghz.

    They both have 15.6" screens.
The acer has 650 GB hard drive and 6GB of ram vs the asus's 500 and 4 respectively, those are the only things the acer has going for it, and ram is cheap and easy to install if you need to upgrade later. you already said you were possibly getting an external HD. If it were my money I'd spend the extra for the asus

Asus makes pretty solid products all round. If you buy an Asus PC, you get an Asus motherboard, and they are some of the best quality motherboards you can get.

The HP ProBooks aren't half bad either, if you want an aluminum body

This one has a better gpu than all others listed, but it's all around the best bet:
