Exclamation Can anyone recommend a good .rar extracter for free?

    Hey ya'll in Emuparadise,
Can anyone reccomend a good rar extracter? I'm looking for one that isn't a trial version and works great. Or can I just get away with running the .rar's?

thanks to anyone who can help.

    P.S.
Why .rars? are they more compressed or something...

most upload sites require that you upload zips because it saves them server space obviously.

winrar and 7zip is just what people are using nowadays.

    doesn't hurt to have BOTH

I prefer to just use the trial of x64 WinRAR. I see no reason to get the full version to be honest, it never expires or gives you a nag screen =/

I agree. WinRar is still my preferred archive extractor/unextractor.

7zip is by far, and beyond, the best compressor/extractor out there, and thats before even considering that it's free open-source software. I personally use it's (*.7z) superior compression on almost everything, except audio (WinRAR rules there).

    That being said...

I literally decompress thousands of archives in a month, and out of those, 7zip will fail to decompress about 5 percent of the 'RAR' compressed archives. Only on RAR archives mind you.

If you have an archive that fails, or gives corruption errors, try WinRAR. Short of incomplete downloads, or other obvious user errors, it always extracts it's own format (yes, even the very old compressed versions).

Depends on the operating system, I like winrar but I also use 7zip when winrar is giving me problems.

I agree 7zip is the best but I've never had it not open a RAR file for me and my harddisk plus my 1.5TB external is full of games from ep I literately have 250MB available out of 1.5TB on the external.

7zip by far, I've only come across a couple of.rars that won't work with it so it is handy to grab winrar as well. Also since no one has mentioned it yet you should get ECM tools, it may be needed sometimes if you download iso's.

Looks like 7zip gets the win, I've been finding a lot of files that only it could extract. Thanks everyone for your help.
