Let's have a game of spot the difference.

    3rd person

    1st person

    See any differences?

First person is behind the eyes of the character, third person is behind the character.

Edit: See Inferno's visual aids for reference.

It's kind of philosophical. When I was younger, I only wanted to race in third person perspective, but it's much faster and more involving to play a game in first person.

It is the difference between trying to control others and being in control of yourself.....philosophically, of course.

I just thought that First person shooter means the character or the enemy is the first person who shoots...
    And about third-person..ummm...I don't know
So from the picture, I can see that in third-person games I can see the body of the character,
while in first-person I can only see the character's head or even his gun only.
    Is that right..??

They are literary devices, have you never read a book?

there really isnt much of a difference except different points of view (ex doom, resident evil 4).

That's exactly what it is, a term used for perspective of how the game is experienced.

First person- seeing straight through the eyes of the character you are in the game

Second person is when you see yourself through someone elses eyes(during a cut scene or in a CCTV cam for example)...A good "second person" view example is during the sniper fight in Metal gear 3, when he scopes you and the camera changes to his scope and you see yourself moving around, that is Second person perspective(very uncommonly used) but that is where it falls in.

Third person is just a typical spectators point of view. Like just looking at the character from any point of view other than through someones eyes, more or less.

Inferno - Yeah I see the difference. In 3rd Person, the playable character is the Meat Shield. In 1st Person, someone else can be the Meat Shield.

Then again, this here is already a fine explanation in itself.

Why must I always type in bold?
Why must I ask stupid and so easy to answer questions?
Why can't I just use google?

    Seriously.
