    Thumbs down

    Hey, what IS THIS?

This chat was a good thing for people who needed some help.

Why are you removing it like that?I don't really understand the point of this action.

Isn't this chat better than countless threads about the same thing: "please, help me to run this pSx!!!!!"?

Besides that, people who don't like it can just close it...
Because if we will remove everything that have 25% of haters (especially based on a "poll" like this), then let's remove Google, as well as any other website/ search engine/ Operating System....

Okay, now the next poll is: Do you like rapidshare links

The chat WAS a good idea, but it's too much to handle... Through chat, you can get to know your peers a lot more [quickly] than with the use of forums. The chat failed because people just plain stopped using the forums' Search function, and just asked directly in the chat, instead of taking 30 seconds of their time...

Using a post, you can answer to billions of people at once. On the chat, you just spent 1 hour explaining how to optimize your emulator, just to have someone else ask the same exact question the next day. With a Post, you just send the link and you're both on your way...
    Forums > Chat

Can't delete, because it was quoted...

Not many people came to chat, most were ignorant noobs who had to ask the simplest of questions or Trolls , when you actually tried to have a conversation with someone you had either noobs or trolls in the way ruining the conversation.

    (to both parts)

    I'm rather pleased it's gone.
I can talk to anyone here that I want to via IM service, TinyChat, etc etc.

I agree 100 % with Diari. The chat shouldve been left alone. Ppl say that there were barely any ppl on? Well thats a lie, because i was on everyday since a week ago, and i always saw ppl talkin. The only good side to this is that we dont have to listen to "any girls?" every five secs. when Lki is on, or "How do you download an emu?" every so often. So i guess we dont have to listen to the trolls or the dumbasses anymore, so thats a good thing. BUT, what about the people who liked going to the chat because of being able to talk to awesome people? The trolls and dumbasses could always be blocked, JS. And hell, im guessing some ppl, like myself, just came here for the chat, JS.

Yepp, that's the main reason I was coming here every day... I don't really use emulators anymore (rarely... and the ones I use are on my Android/PSP, so not from here) and I get my rips off UseNet...I started coming back because of the ambiance and the fun of helping random people with problems...

There is a big difference between a forum post, and a chat system... You can get to know your peers so much better via chat rather than forums...

The general consensus was that the chat was more of a hindrance than anything, which was one factor that was taken into account when we removed it.

The chat also cost money, which was another factor that was taken into account.

As has previously been stated, it's nice to have an archived record of general questions that people need help with. If a thread keeps popping up that says, "I need help getting <insert-game-here> to run properly," then sometimes it's nice to have a record that people can search for before posting another thread. Yeah, we'll still get a bunch of new threads with the same questions (sometimes with minor variations), but a lot of people still manage to figure out how to get everything working based on previous threads that they have seen. If all of the questions are answered in chat, then they won't have that archive.

As well, the chat was damn near impossible to moderate. We tried to limit it as much as we could, but there were still people signed in as guests in the chat, and a lot of it was filled with idlers who had just signed into their account, didn't close the chat, and continued on with whatever they were doing. We also had quite a few problems with people posting links to warez, porn, or just general douchebaggery, which is difficult to moderate when there isn't an account associated with that particular user. We can kick them out of the chat, but we had no power to investigate further for IP bans or anything like that, so they could continue to come back.

The system resources thing could have been a factor as well, I don't know. I don't remember that being part of the conversation, but the entire decision took place over three weeks of discussions. The main point was that staffers here have enough on their plates as is, and promoting someone to moderator just to manage a chat room was not an option.

A couple of you have also mentioned an IRC server. Yes, we used to have a very popular one, years and years ago. It slowly died. Some people attempted to revive it. And it failed. And then some people tried to revive it again. And it failed. If you really want a chat, bring back an IRC chat room. I know lots of people who miss it, but every attempt to revive it has met with its painful demise. Therefore, it's taken a back seat in priorities. If enough people are interested and stay interested, then it may come back. However, that's up to bigger people than me. I never used IRC, and I only used the chat for the first couple of days before I wanted to smack everyone in that chat room and rage quit into a cold, delicious bottle of beer.

Most definitely this. People aren't taking into account the amount of extra work that the chat places on the staff, because they don't share even the slightest bit of that responsibility. There wasn't even a way to report messages posted in chat, a feature that we have on the boards that helps regular users help the staff out a bit from time to time.

I'm happy it's gone. I can't wait for knightshade to post.

rly? i was always lookin ion the "# people here" box, and i only saw 1, maybe 2 mods in there, and that was all 1 week. If yall are bitchin about it so much, why didnt yall... hmm. Idk, maybe go in there and kick people or ban people? The chat couldve been much better if mods and admins were doing their jobs and kickin or banning the trolls.
