Default Counting Sheep: The Vincent Brooks Story (Or: Ray LPs Catherine)*

You heard right. I actually followed through on my plan to LP this at some point. I'll be uploading videos to the YT account as I play/record. As for when they come here, I haven't really decided whether to post them as they upload or to slowly roll them out in an effort to make it slower and easier to follow. Whichever is preferred would be nice. As for the video length, I'm currently intending to go roughly an hour per video. That may or may not change depending on shit. Anywho-

    Index:
Night 1 & 2: Do Troubled Young Men Dream Of PSychotic Sheep?
Night 2 & 3: From Sheep to Barfly
Night 3 & Day 4: Mo' Women, Mo' Problems
Night 4: Kathie's having a little lamb, little lamb, little lamb
Night 4 & 5: Ice Level? Snow Problem!
Night 5 & Day 6: You're As Cold As Ice
Night 6: A distinct lack of Scissorman
Night 6 & Day 7: Droppin' like barflies
    Night 7: Spiral the Drag-on
    Day 8: FreedOMGPLOTTWIST
Day 9/Epilogue: Much Ado About Mutton

Q: The fuck is this shit?

A: It's a puzzle game with a heavy plot. It's what happens when a truckload of dating sims hits a shipment of Q*Bert arcade cabinets at high speed.

Q: OH GOD, MY VIRGIN EYES AND EARS!

A: M rated, bro. Kind of goes without saying. Thus far there's been gory bits and some PG-13 style nudity accompanied by some R rated implications. I have no idea if things will go more one way or another, but to err on the side of caution, silly rabbit, this isn't for kids. Which happens to be a line from this cereal themed porno I saw once. Cap'n Crunch really knows how to munch carpet.

Q: Why are you so terrible?

A: This game came out just the other day and I haven't had my copy long. I will not progress one frame of animation beyond where I am in these videos unless a camera is running. Fully blind. In a puzzle game. Yeah.

    Q: Playstyle? Choices? Ending?

A: No clue. I'm pretty much intending to play Vincent the way I see his character with a little bit of improvisation or personal choice depending on the situation. I'm just going to see where things go. So I'm probably going to miss things and make choices that probably won't lead to whatever obscure "perfect" ending there may be. If such a thing exists. Yeah, I haven't looked at shit. It's just the way I'd normally play this thing. Just with recordings happening and me talking a lot more than usual.

    Q: Needs better commentary

A: I'm all ears. It's hard to think and talk at the same time when you're doing two different things. I may or may not get better. I'm only at video 2 right now.

Q: Are you actually going to finish this one?

A: Yes. And I haven't abandoned the other one. I just happened to set a slower update schedule since there were some pretty big posts/loads of video and happened to get a bit lazy with recording. Partially because I was playing some other stuff. I'll get back to it once I'm done with this. With how I play games, it won't take too long. Probably

Q: Is this LP going to be absurdly long?

A: Probably not. Word on the street is it's about 8-10 hours in length. So it seems like a decent enough length without overstaying its welcome. The videos might be a bit long, but this way I don't have to constantly stop playing. You're free to watch the absurdly long videos in segments and make your own stopping points. Whatever works.

And time for some video. I do have a silent version of this that lacks my commentary. I may be uploading those somewhere in case my voice is particularly grating. Which I hear is the case.

I chuckled at the irony part in the beginning. I was thinking the same, actually. I mean, no offense and all. But this whole game is like a story we'd hear from you in the Retro HO.

Couple of things. I think you can just upload these whenever they're ready. I'm not a pussy who can't even keep track of an online LP if the videos aren't coming out slowly enough, but maybe that's just me. But maybe others will disagree. So I'll leave it up to you.

Some constructive/helpful comments: I'm not sure if you're aware of it, or if you've watched some of your own footage, but both the game's audio and your commentary sounds somewhat... muffled? If that's the right word for it. I can still understand what your saying and all, but the game's audio (people talking in cutscenes and such) is barely audible. I'm only mentioning it because your other LPs -including the demo of this game- all had rather clear audio. If it's some recent equipment-related issue that can't be fixed, then ignore what I've just said.

Oh, and as for the difficulty - I think you can change it mid-game, unlike in Persona. I could be wrong, though.

This is clearly a training simulator for when the weird dreams finally kick in.

I hadn't noticed. I listened to a bit but it seemed to be at roughly the same levels as my normal stuff. I was however using headphones to mix the audio, so that could always throw a monkey wrench into things. It's a new setup related issue. I moved from one machine to another, since I've noticed a slight tendency for some game audio to go out of sync especially during a lengthy recording session. It's not something that happens constantly, but when it does it can be pretty bad. *points to most recently posted RE4 videos* I decided to attempt recording on a different computer to fix the problem. Although if it's just going to create other problems, I might have to give the old way a shot, since it's not something that always occurs.

And you are correct. They mention it just after you get to the bar on the second day. Strangely, it's on a separate pause menu which also contains the subtitle options. Because clearly one wasn't enough.

Strangely enough, a lot of people. Can't say I blame them considering it has a reputation for being hard (some have said "impossible" and "harder than Demon's Souls". The latter was from the rebalanced easier version which is what all non J copies are), considering the demo boosted the difficulty substantially (they later admitted to it. Which seems to be good, since I got thoroughly flogged by it), and Atlus isn't simply publishing, but developing (when they say normal, they MEAN normal. Which ends up feeling like most games on hard. They even tend to warn you when selecting Normal that things aren't going to be easy for you.)

And, well, Atlus also tends to throw sudden unexpected difficulty boosts at people.

That fucking Matador, man. Still have nightmares.

just picked this game up, each catherine is supposed to take 5Hrs to beat if you don't lose, though... i may not play this game much seeing as its one of those you don't want people watching you play, at least for the cutscenes anyway

Intending to play Vincent how you think he should be played?
Damn it, it's not clear if it's Katherine for true Love or Catherine for the lulz.
Haven't started watching, but will start watching soon.

Right now, I think I'm going to end up not really picking either. Hopefully they prepared for this possibility.

As of Day 4, Katherine is a controlling bitch who rubs me the wrong way and Catherine is a whackjob and my intuition is saying it's going to get worse.

If I HAVE to pick one, I'm not sure how I'd go. K annoys me and I really don't see Vince going with her. C, great as she may seem on the surface, has some serious creepy psycho stalker vibes. I'm not sure I want an ending where Vincent ends up in a duffel bag.

Recent developments in the plot have caused me to have to reconsider some stuff. But that'd be spoiler territory until I get the next video up. Needless to say, shit just got worse for poor Vincent.

Okay, so after finishing another LP of this, I can conclude that the evil/Catherine true ending is the most awesome thing ever. Then again, I wanted the craziest possible ending from the very beginning, so no wonder it appealed to me. Curious to see which one you'll end up getting.

Also, there's one hilarious/awkward revelation about a certain character in the good ending. I didn't see it coming, even though it's being hinted at throughout the game via seemingly insignificant bits of dialogue. Wondering if you suspect anything, but I'll leave the discussion for after you've finished with the game.

Well I am frequently making wild and crazy predictions about everyone.

So I might hit the mark simply through the virtue of how huge my volley of random guesses is.

Never trust a guy who goes by a pseudonym. Never trust a waitress. Never trust the girl who seems innocent. Never trust the girl who is clearly not innocent. Never trust ANYONE.

    And now shit gets REAL.

Interesting development. I wonder if I can still justify telling her to go fuck herself. She's been making it easy so far, but I can't be certain I can continue doing so given the circumstances without it making V out to be a massive scumbag. I CAN HAS INTERNAL CONFLICT.

Oh well. Maybe the answer will come to me during the next nightmare. Or the plot will thicken adequately for me to have a more clear cut answer. I guess it'll have to wait until I get some sleep/feel like doing the next video.

About that certain revelation, it's not a plot-related thing, it just... comes out of left field. Kind of.

Anyway, shit's gonna get more complicated than this later on.

Also, I might've totally missed something, but I don't recall you ever checking the bathroom in the bar. It's nothing major, but stuff happens if you wash your face before each nightmare sequence.

Edit: The audio's perfect this time, by the way. And yes, there is a "third option", though I haven't really bothered to look up how you go about unlocking it.
