    Default FPS drop, pcsx2

    Heya!

I'm having quite the annoying problem. Downloaded pcsx2 about a week ago and yesterday I started playing through FFX, very awesome game but that's not my point.
Arrived to the Highroad some time last night and BAM!, my fps dropped from a steady 60 to about 25. When I use Fire the same thing happens but not as severe, it just drops to about 45 fps and when I use Ifrit's Overdrive (Hellfire), it drops down to about 10-15 fps.
I know it's something with the emulator working too hard but I can't figure it out myself.

Haven't tried any other games yet, fyi.

Specs: AMD Phenom II X3 (Black edition, if it matters), 3 cores at a steady 2,8 ghz
    4 GB DDR3 RAM
    GeForce 9400 GT 1GB
Windows XP 32-bit (Gonna upgrade soon anyway if it's the problem)
    Direct X 9.0c

It's just the scenes like that are very heavy on graphics, meaning it would slow down.

FPS drop or slowdown happen frequently on some(I'd say most of them) scenes on FFX, and that's considered normal by most people.

and which version of PCSX2 was that?
Most of your specs is okay, the only problem is your GPU.

Try using DX10(Windows Vista/7), and enable Speedhacks if you haven't.

It's 0.9.8 r4600. Speedhacks are on, just forgot the screenshot and I will try with Dx10 later.

It's just that, it seems like it only slows down when the emulator has to generate a big view or fire-effects. Movie scenes work like a charm, same goes for overall combat and the overall overworld but these things just keep nagging my neck.

Oh, I forgot, switch both VU0 and VU1 settings to microVU, just curious, what version is your GSdx?

Have you try fiddling around with the Speedhacks? or Preset?

there is nothing you can do with thoes scenes its all to do with your graphics card, i even spoke to a member of the PCSX2 team its compltely normal to have this slow down, i also get it when the screen distorts with gravity moves etc, there isnt anything major you can do you can also try the SVN build from here and see if that makes it run any better just follow the instructions on the top of the page

Mega: Fiddled around as much as I braved, no significant ups there.

Bennie: Well, I'll try that. I guess there's not much to do otherwise.

Well, try what Bennie suggest, if it does nothing, then you have to live with it.

Upgrade to Vista/7, and try using DX10 when you have chance, though it may only give slight changes though(or not at all).
