no we can't because if we compress it.
it's format will change.
and you will then not able to play it.
Let me guess you have a old Fat32 formated hard drive or are you trying run from DVD
What OS are you using???
Actually what are your system specs so I can advise further

... wut?
To OP, can you elaborate more why it won't work? Are there any errors? etc
and yes, it possible, but it is recommended to use Linuz ISO CDVD plugin to create the compressed file, or PCSX2 will have an error when loading it.
The size doesn't affect if the game will run or not, it was the settings and whether or not your computer able to run the emulator.
This should be dropped
Mohit obviously didn't even know that compression was possible, now he should do
Anyway more information is needed by the OP before more support can be provided
Specificly why the OP is restricted to 4GB
System specs may also aid us help aswell

not sure exactly where to check my specs....im that new at this and not very pc intelligent. i keep getting this message when i try to boot a game. it says that it is searching for the first layer or something similar and the program pretty much just freezes up. I tried to look throughout the internet for a solution and the only thing remotely similar to my problem a guy suggested compression which is why i brought this up.
The iso can be made smaller by deleting the video files from the iso....but Im not sure how the game would work afterwards.
The God of War iso was done this way.Maybe this info can send you on the right path.
Also its kind of complicated so study alot before you attempt it.

All in 1
I was wondering why the file size would make a difference...
Sounds like it is more of an issue either with a corrupt DVD image or a plugin issue
What is the file extention of the game, the last 3 letters after the .
e.g.
nameoffile.iso that would be iso
nameoffile.rar that would be rar
nameoffile.7z that one is 7z (only two letters)

It's an iso, it was in multiple Rar files. I then extracted the files.
Thats fine hopefully meganova can help you a little more, I can't emulate pcsx2 myself (I'm only on a laptop that specs are a lil on the low side for emulating PS2) so I was just covering the basics
Your files seem to be fine anyway, unless the DVD image is somehow corrupt

I think there fine, but have know way to really prove it. I downloaded the file from archive on the site and I also got need for speed carbon (stupidly with out checking it was compatible) and that game atleast got to it known cut off at the loading. Devil may cryis supposed to be fine but I can't even get the ps3 start up to show so I don't know I also tried different changing the Cdvd plugins so far none have worked. I have no ideas for a solution but thanks anyway for the help so far.
Oh you can check a DVD Image by scanning it with ISObuster (surface scan I think it is, it's been a while since I used it)
You should still only need the free function for you to be able to do that, this checks the files contained within the iso for readability
There is one other issue that may be there, that is if it was patched for ESR use that is part of a softmod for real hardware

Can you post your logs from the console window? Write down the message you get when booting as well.
Go to Run -> type DXDIAG, and post your System Information, then go to your Display tab, and post the name of your Device, or GPU.
More info about your emulator version, as well plugins you use.
