Default Final Fantasy 8 - fps problems in certain battles

    Operating System - Windows 7 64 bit
    Processor - Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU Q 740 @1.73GHz(8CPUs)
    Memory - 8GB RAM
Graphics Card - ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650

For the emulator, im using ePSXe version 1.7.0

    Video plugin - Pete's OpenGL2 Driver 2.9
Sound plugin - ePSXe SPU core 1.7.0

    Problem
Im noticing in certain battles (mainly boss battles so far) that the fps seems to drop dramatically to the point where it would run slower than what it would normally on an actual console. Ive tried putting the settings to the minimum but it doesn't seem to change anything. Don't know if this is relevant or not, but when this happens i notice the bottom right part of the screen seems slightly flashy. Any ideas?

no idea on the flashy part but I fixed most of my speed issues in final fantasy 8 & 9 by going into the video card plugin and taking the video graphics vram off of auto and setting it to 512 this seems to be a common problem with final fantasy games epsxe and ati cards

note: after following the above you will need to enable frame limiting and set it to 60 for ntsc or 50 for pal games as it will run way too fast without it

Default Another Final Fantasy 8 problem - blacked out words

    Operating System - Windows 7 64 bit
    Processor - Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU Q 740 @1.73GHz(8CPUs)
    Memory - 8GB RAM
Graphics Card - ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650

For the emulator, im using ePSXe version 1.7.0

    Video plugin - Pete's OpenGL2 Driver 2.9
Sound plugin - ePSXe SPU core 1.7.0

    Problem
Im not entirely sure what has happened. Whenever i run the FF8 game and i decide to load a game from the memory card, all the words are 3/4 blacked out to the point where you cannot read any of it. The rest of the graphics is fine, its just when you talk to people, in the menu - can't read the words. This has only happened to me today, and its possible that taking video graphics vram off of auto and setting it to 512 (advice i followed to correct an earlier issue) may have caused the problem.

sorry blehs not sure what to tell you i use 1.5.2 for my final fantasies as it is recommended by the majority of rpg gamers using epsxe I also use the save states instead of the memory card feature as I've had problems in certain games where after I close epsxe my save files disappear.

1.5.2 is recommended when playing most of the Square games, try switching to that version and see if that fixes that problem.
