We did it!! Now everyone has 72 hours to use promo code [99CENTS] to get Batman: Arkham Asylum for under a buck. Since we still have time till the original deadline, let’s keep the momentum going! How about this? For every additional Facebook fan we get by Monday Midnight, we’ll donate $1 to Child’s Play, the amazing charity that brings the joy of gameplay to hospitalized children everywhere. Thanks everyone!

Unofficial OnLive Portable Client is Released – Run OnLive from School, Libraries & More

While many OnLive users have been asking for a portable client that would allow them to run the cloud gaming service from public computers, flash drives, and other removable storage devices, it’s not something that is at the top of OnLive’s priority list. However, that doesn’t mean it couldn’t be done. OnLiveFans.com super moderator Malel, with some help from Dan Ahl, one of our forum members have released version 1.0 of OnLive Portable.

For those of you wondering if you should download and install the unofficial OnLive Portable client, please take a look at this list of reason why you may want to use it:

You want to run OnLive off of a flash drive or other removable storage.
You want to use OnLive on a PC account without administrative privileges.
You want to use OnLive without installing the client on your computer.
You travel a lot and use many different computers.

While we aren’t condoning playing OnLive during school hours, or at work, this new client will allow you to do so. It will allow you to play from any computer that you do not have administrative privileges to. Version 1.0 is a stable version of the new client, and it will be updated as needed. The updated versions will be able to be found here.

Download OnLive Portable Version 1.0 now.

The only thing I could find was one person stating their school proxy prevented them form using the OnLive portable client. But, no one asked about it, or pursued other causes...

OnLive is finally starting to gain recognition as a company that has made great strides in the innovation of gaming. The gaming industry hasn’t ever seen anything like OnLive before, and because of this, they have been nominated for ‘Innovation of the Year’ by stuff.tv, for the Stuff Gadget Awards 2011. OnLive Founder and CEO, Steve Perlman has been at the helm of many other innovations in the past, but perhaps none with as much potential as OnLive.

The Gadget Awards, let readers decide on winners in 6 different categories, that will be announced in a live event on November 2, 2011. These categories include:

    Game of the Year
    Innovation of the Year
    App of the Year
    Most Wanted (future gadget)
    Design of the Year

    Retailer of the Year

This year, OnLive is one of 8 contestants for the “Innovation of the Year” award. They are going up against the likes of Google Chrome OS, Google + Circles, LG Optimus 3D, Misa Kitara, DigiTech iPB-10, Fujifilm Hybrid Viewfinder, and the Apple Smart Cover.

Those who vote are automatically entered into a contest in which they can win tickets to attend the 2011 Gadget Awards in London, England on November 2, 2011. Vote now at stuff.tv.

Typically, we announce new OnLive games on Tuesdays. But not today. Why? Let’s just say we have some fun things planned for Wednesday-Friday. Be sure to check back here tomorrow (and the rest of the week) so you don’t miss out! It’ll be worth it. In the meantime, share this post with all your friends so they can get in on the action!

We have reported that game modding would be coming to OnLive in the past. In fact, in our interview with OnLive founder and CEO Steve Perlman, back in July, he mentioned that game modding is certainly something that will be coming to OnLive in the future.

However, Perlman told PCgamer today that experimental servers will be set up specifically for their first modded game in the coming months.

Game modding is certainly something that the OnLive community has been asking for. It will surely help convince many PC gamers to make the switch over to OnLive, or at least give it a try.
