Presumably they chose Vita because it is the Latin word for Life. But if so.. I don't understand why they didn't just call it the Playstation Life. I'm not saying that's a great name either, but it rolls off the tongue a lot better than Vita.

They got hacked again, of course.
And this is why Sony has terrible security.

Maybe they are going for a "Wii"-effect? If you get what I mean...

The consensus I've seen at peoples reaction to "Vita" is that it sounds very "Wii" to them.. So that's entirely possible.

Vita at least sounds somewhat exotic.

So, this thing is obviously taking off plenty of skin, but it doesn't really seem much better. That, and it takes far too much effort/time.

Vita is more exotic and since they are giving importance to the social features, I guess the name is ok.

EDIT: Colamisu is pretty exotic too.

Personally, I think the departure from calling everything "<Brand> <Type> <Number>" is a good choice. I would imagine the names PS6 and PSP4 would end up causing far more problems than profits.

Vita makes it sound like it will have a dairy byproduct. I need a Gt Express to cook my Vita on the go.

It kind of reminds me of a type of coffee.

I'll take an extra large cup of Vita.

Steel wool wouldn't take any skin off my feet. They're made of bullshit and magic.

Considering the way they seem to want to advertise it, "Life" makes perfect sense. Which is exactly why they named it Vita I imagine, since yea they probably figured "Life" was a little plain sounding I guess. I still think it rolls off the tongue better than the Latin equivalent though.

Clearly they should have gone with some more obscure language. Perhaps Dwarven.
