    Default Jailbreaking

Who heres good with that shit?

Im running 4.2.1, and have tried this:
    http://www.redmondpie.com/jailbreak-...-how-to-guide/
    ^ The windows version people.
I power on, hold the buttons and what not, i get to the 15 sec one, it counts down to about 10secs, then gives me the option to jailbreak it.

I click the JB button, shit starts working, and then no go.

Any ideas? Ive tried holding it for the full 15secs, but no go, ive let go when the JB option comes up, but no go.

I too used Greenpoison to jailbreak my 4.2.1 iTouch 2nd gen. However, GreenPoison RC6 is out now, and that might be your problem if you downloaded it from that link. If that update doesn't work, make sure your iDevice is restored to factory settings before attempting the JB. Mine was fresh out of the box when I did it, but I assume its necessary.

And I think you have to follow all of the prompts, (i.e hold the buttons down for however long during ALL steps), and THEN hit JB.

If i sync my iPhone to iTunes, do a reset to default on the iphone, all my contacts will come back after i plug my iPhone in and sync it right?
It did that when i swapped my iPhone 3 to a 4, but that was on my main PC.

Edit: Did a backup JUST IN CASE.

I'm not too sure about that, since I don't have an iPhone anymore. I would think so though.

I used the newest version of iTunes to JB my wife's iPod Touch, but she's on 4.1.x. If I recall correctly 4.2.x is a bit more difficult.

    Still no go.
Maybe an issue with my phone being carrier locked?

Also, iTunes wont do a backup, without logging into iTunes, so, needless to say i spent an hour woalking around town looking for a free hotspot.

I'm on 4.2.1 with my 4th gen iTouch and had no issues untethering with Greenpois0n after using redsn0w to do the tethered jailbreak back when that was all that was available. I didn't need to reset to factory settings. Was the phone off before you tried to put it in DFU mode? If not, try turning it off first.

Yeah powered it off, ive tried it a few times now and nothing.
I even looked up the manual and made sure i was pressing the right buttons, which is sad considering there's only 2 main ones....

Its just got me stumped, like if there was an error msg, i'd look that up, but no error.

Maybe a timing issue between the laptop and iPhone?

What OS is the computer you're breaking it with on? Like, full version, not just "Windows."

Does it go into DFU mode if you do it without turning on the jailbreak software? If it's working, Windows has a notification window under the New Hardware icon in the taskbar that says "Connected: Apple iPod: DFU MODE" or something like that.

Finally, it may just be temperamental. Sometimes I had to redo the jailbreak several times to get it to complete (I've had to restore and re-break it three times), and it was doing what yours is doing. Just stopping halfway through and loading up unbroken.

Windows Vista home Premium 64 bit.

But i think i found zee problem, the read me file says you need internet, im assuming there are files stored on a server?
I lack internet because the phone is my hotspot.
If there are files held on a server i may have to leech off the McDonald's WiFi tomorrow.

Ah, yeah. I'm pretty sure Greenpois0n stores the OS files on their server, whereas redsn0w has you download it and open it before breaking. Surprised it didn't give you a message about it, if that's the case, though.

But the 64 bit could also be an issue. I think it should work, since it's Vista64, but it wouldn't work on my XP64 computer.

Is the current redsn0w tethered or untethered, though? I wouldn't update if it's not untethered.

Untethered, but i can only find a guide for OS, cant find one for Windows.
This way looks harder and more annoying, i might just wait till i get ADSL.
