They are, but hormones don't change your voice unless you get on them before it actually drops, in which case it'll stay high. On the plus side of things, for almost everyone it's something you can retrain.

The other day I answered an advertising phone call for my brother, who was out, and was asked if I was his partner. I don't know if that meant that I sounded like a woman, or that I sounded like an immensely camp man.
And you wouldn't want my voice. What sounds manly to you sounds terribly camp to most Scottish people.

Yeah, every guide I read told you to take plenty of water to begin with, as talking in a high pitch for long periods can put a lot of strain on your voice until you get used to it.
