Default Do you care about owning platinum/greatest hits/classics versions?

I never really noticed until I started watching what people had been buying on YouTube but there are a lot of "collectors" that won't touch platinum/greatest hits versions of games... Really? I personally don't give a shit, it's the game I want after-all. I know they do look ugly compared to normal games, but it's not the box-art you want to play after-all...

The only thing I dislike is when I get a normal version of a game and get handed the disc of a platinum copy... Other than that I don't mind at all which version I get.

    Discuss?

From the point of view of a collector, it's a totally understandable argument. But as a gamer, I don't give a shit. Given the choice between the two when there's no other effects of choosing one, I'd take the non-hits one simply for the aesthetics. But I wouldn't go out of my way to get the non-hits version if the hits one is there.

I'll grab whichever turns out to be cheapest. So normally greatest hits or whatever.

If given the chance, I try not to get those versions.

I remember owning the greatest hits version of Tekken 1 for PlayStation.

I don't normally give a shit at all... my PSP collection is testament to that 3 of the games are Promotional Copies. My Gangs of London is Platinum and my Monster Hunter Freedom Unite is a PSP Essentials Range title

Like Cookie, if given the chance. Although, I really like the get the cheapest available game. But I dislike ordering a game online and then finding they sent me a platina version or whatever.

Given the choice I'll go for the original release, but it doesn't really bother me. I'm more interested in making sure games come complete with manuals and such.

That said, you should all pay an exorbitant price for my non Greatest Hits copy of Final Fantasy Chronicles, just because.

Manuals, another thing I don't care about at all.

As long as the case and disc aren't mangled...

I read the manuals before I play the game, if I have it. Except Earthbound, because the manual is a full strategy guide.

That's something I wouldn't do it, not that I purchase second hand games, but the game has to be complete, that's a must.

Eh, I figure if I'm buying something boxed it may as well include everything. With old systems I often buy loose cartridges, but they're sometimes no cheaper than fully boxed so it makes sense to go for the most complete copy.

As far as disc based games go, if it's the last copy in the shop and they have it without the manual I'll take it. I don't read them anyway...

I absolutely hate greatest hits versions of games. They look godawful, and you know that those copies are basically reproductions of the original series, which devalues them horribly. I noticed that some companies are actually smart and just add a sticker to the shrink wrapping with greatest hits (Sony), while others have horrible greatest hits like platinum (Microsoft) that makes you want to hurl all over the place.

As far as games today, it's purely eye candy to have all the games look the same since they're all horribly massed produced, but during the PS1/PS2/Gamecube/Xbox era, it does matter.

EDIT: I just noticed I had some boxes of SNES games that have a sort of greatest hits on them.

Ah, well the shops around here are so expensive I end up buying nearly all of my games on the internet, which gives me a bit more choice. I always look at dirty, scuffed used games in the shop and realise I can get them mint online for the same price or less.
