Just started VA-11 Hall-A: Cyberpunk Bartender Action. Seems like a chill game and I'm really digging it. Easily the best Humble Bundle I've paid for considering I also got Shantae. It's a shame the mystery games were trash though.

Have been playing MapleStory DS in little spells before bed recently. Never played the MMO it was based on, but it's actually a nice little game, and an impressive effort for a Korean company like Nexon who had, as far as I know, no console / single player game experience when they developed it. The sprites are really colorful and detailed (it's great that every piece of equipment is reflected on your character sprite, given how rare that is even for bigger name 2D games~ ), the platforming controls are snappy and tight (I'm emulating it on a Samsung Galaxy using an onscreen controller, and still haven't had many problems~), the story, setting and character designs are all super-cute and quirky, and unlike a lot of other MMO to single player adaptations, it doesn't really go in for the mundane, MMO-inspired fetch questing that is better suited to online environments, and is instead structured in a way that's much more reminiscent of a typical story-driven action RPG. Unfortunately the music is pretty bland, and the difficulty curve is set waaaaay too low for anyone who has ever played a sidescroller before (I suspect it may have been aimed at a younger audience than me... ), but it's still plenty of fun in short spells, and reminds me a lot of games like Popful Mail, Shantae and Wonder Boy, all of which I love.

(It's also been a very welcome reminder of how far my Korean has come on. It's the first time I've played a game in Korean and felt that my skill with the language is at a high enough level to enjoy it as a game as well as as a language learning exercise, and I can follow nearly all of the dialogue with only very occasional reference to a dictionary. It's really helped me realise that my comprehension is already miles and miles ahead of where it was a year ago (as well as far ahead of where my Japanese was after my first year~ ), which has been super-encouraging. I guess all of the grammatical similarities and shared vocabulary between Japanese and Korean really helped, as well as obviously having done the whole foreign language thing before and having a sense of what does and doesn't work for me. Also, living with a Korean certainly doesn't hurt. <3 Give me another year, and I think I'll be pretty good at the language! ^^/)

Really need to try out those sequels. I've only beaten Arkham Asylum.

I started a playthrough of a Final Fantasy Tactics:War of the Lions hack while watching an FF Tatctics Let's Play on the side, but playing that just made me want to play FFIV DS instead so now I'm playing through FFIV on one side of my monitor while watching FF Tactics on the other side. Once I'm done with FFIV I'll consider if I should restart Tactics since this hack doesn't seem to include the slowdown or resolution fixes. I do need to get back to VA-11 HALL-A at some point since I got the bad ending last time.
