Default Wii System Menu 4.2 Soft Mod Guide

Wii System Menu 4.2 Soft Mod Guide
Please fully read through the guide a couple time before you start the mod to get a grasp of what your going to be doing.

I made this guide real quick. I will keep on editing and making it more dummy proof, but it should be enough to guide you through the process of modding your Wii.

All you need to mod your Wii is an SD Card (preferabbly a 2gb Sandisk), a Wiimote, a pc with a memory card reader a tv, a wii, and the necessary cables. for some steps u will need wifi (wifi not ethernet) i will make an offline mod guide in the future.

If you think your doing it wrong just keep going. If it doesnt work in the end you'll know for sure. You can also redo steps if you think you messed one up.

Please post first if you are really unsure of what going on. I will reply ASAP

I will make a guide in the future for those of u who dont want to update from 3.1 - 4.1

If your Wii is not already soft modded and you are not on system menu 4.2 do an official update to 4.2 and then follow the guide

Pack 1,2,3,etc indicate taking your Sd Card out of the Wii and installing that pack or the contents shown below that onto your SD Card from your PC to continue to the next step of the Mod

    HBC = HOme Brew Channel

Here is the link to the necessary packs

    Download Links:

Step 1 installing the Homebrew Channel, DVDX, and Bootmii

    Pack 1 -

    root:\apps
    root:\private
    root:\wad
    IOS38-64-v3610.wad
    IOS70-64-v6687 [Patched][FreeTheBug].wad
    boot.elf
    Hacks.ini

    - put your Sd Card into your pc and format it to fat32 then install the contents of Pack 1
    - take the Sd Card out of the and put it in your Wii
    - click on SD symbol in system menu. its in the bottom left shaped like an Sd card and says Sd card on it
    - a message will ask "load boot.dol" click yes and wait. this will start up Hackmii
    - once Hackmii is started it will give u three options. to install HBC, DVDX, and Bootmii
    - click on HBC choose to install and do it, then do the same for DVDX
    - now click on Bootmii: to install Bootmii hit prepare sd card first and then install it as an IOS
( u can try to install as boot2 but chances are it wont be able to. I recommend just installing as an IOS)
    - now restart the Wii. the HBC should now be a channel on your system menu
    - launch the HBC wen it ask if you want to update say no
    - If HBC starts upside down redo these last steps.
    - The main menu of the Home Brew Channel is loaded off of the sd card. if you have nothing on the sd card there will be nothing in the HBC Main Menu
Step 2 Uninstalling the IOS249 Stub

    Pack 2 -

    root:\Wad\
    root:\bootmii\
    root:\startup.elf
    root:\boot.dol
    root:\00000001\ <-(if available)

    - take the sd card out of the Wii and put it in your pc
    - delete the first pack from the SD card and put in pack2
    - Stick the SD card back into your Wii
    - Launch the HBC - wen it asks if u wanna update say no
    - hit the home button on the wii mote
    - click on Launch Bootmii then wait untill Wad manager start ups
    - in the first page of the Wad Manager it will ask what IOS to use and what is the source
    - find <ios249> using left/right on the dpad
    - select SD Card as source and click A
    - now u should be able to see the contents of the Sd card
    - navigate to the wad folder and go inside of it
    - select ios249 with A
    - then using left/right on the dpad change the action to <uninstall>
    - now hit A once its on <uninstall> to do so

    Step 3 Installing Cios38rev14

    Pack 3 -

    root:\ios38-64-v3610.wad
    root:\bootmii\
    root:\startup.elf
    root:\boot.dol
    root:\00000001\ <-(if available)

    - a wifi connection is recommended for this step but not totally needed. wifi not ethernet.
    - after putting pack 3 on your SD card stick it back in the Wii
    - launch the HBC, say no to updates and hit the home button again
    - click on launch bootmii then wait untill CIOS38rev14 Installer starts
    - once CIOS38rev14 Installer is started it will show <IOS249> highlighted
    - now start pressing left on the dpad of the wiimote untill "do not reload ios"
    - select network install (must have wifi connection)
    - if u dont have Wifi select Sd Card
    - if this step fails using "do not reload IOS" redo this step using ios249, 222, 223, 250, 36,or 37

Step 4 Installing Neogamma and Usb Loadergx Channels

    Pack 1 -

    root:\wad
    root:\apps
    IOS70-64-v6687 [Patched][FreeTheBug].wad

    - put the Sd card back into your pc and delete whats in it
    - from pack 1 put only the above into the SD Card
    - stick the sd card back into the Wii
    - launch the HBC
    - find the Wad Manager click on it and click on load
    - once Wad Manager has started select the IOS and the source
    - select IOS249 for the IOS and select SD Card as source. (this should be the default settings)
    - navigate to wads folder and go inside
    - you will the wads inside of the wad folder
    - to install the Neogamma Channal go to " neogammar8.wad " and install it
    - to install Usb Loadergx Channel go to " usbloadergxr850.wad " and install it
    - there is a third wad it is a forwarder to the usb loader dont worry about it
    - there are alternate usb loaders, another personal favorite of mine is called Wii Flow
    - http://wiiflow.wiitdb.com/wiiflow_1.1_full.zip - thank alucard for the link
    - each .wad in the wiiflow folder is for a different skin, pick one and install
    - another usb loader is Uloader. has many good features and is pretty easy to figure out

    - return to system menu or the HBC
    - launch HBC find the Priiloader app click on it and click on load
    - once the Priiloader menu starts hold down B and press + button to install priiloader using ios249
    - once its done installing restart the Wii
    - if it doesnt start into priiloader turn off the wii - while off hold down the reset button for 3-5 seconds and hit the power button while still holding the reset button - this will force prilloader to start - once started go to hacks
    - if it starts into Priiloader just go to hacks
    - Necessary Hacks are: Block Disc Updates, Block Online updates, Force IOS249, both Region Free Hacks
    - u can enable what ever you like from the menu
    - now back in the Priiloader menu go to settings
    - change Autoboot to System Menu
    - restart the Wii and your done!!!

Do's and Donts of a Modded Wii

    - Never update your system menu!!! You will brick your Wii
    - Never do an update from a disc!!! You will brick your Wii
    - Never Format your Wiii!!
    - Never uninstall any ios under 200!!! You Will brick your Wii
    - You can Play burned wii/Gamecube games if your wii is capable.
    - check this link to see if your Wii is Capable of playing burned games: http://www.wiidrives.com/list
    - If your Wii Has a gc2-d3-2 with no drive chip u cannot play burned games
    - You can play Wii games off of an Sd Card, Usb Flash Drive, Or External Hard drive
    - Not All External Hard Drives are Compatible. I Recommend a Western Digital My Passport
    - You Must connect Usb Devices to the bottom usb port. ( Lay Wii Flat to tell which one if not sure)
    - You can install VC games as channels for free. Careful as some games use alot of memory
    - you can install emulators to play nes, snes, psx, genesis, atari, and more
    - you can install media players to play movies, music, and youtube videos
    - you can update the Home Brew Channel once mod is finished
    - you can update Usb Loadergx once the mod is done

I Would Appreciate any help on making this guide better. please pm me your ideas so i can edit them into the original guide.

I will be making more guides on how to mod wii system menus 3.1 - 4.1, how to install emulators and play classic games, how to recover a bricked wii, and how to rip wii games onto a pc. Any help starting the guides for these topics would be awesome for the site.
