Default [GUIDE] How To Determine Which Wii Exploit To Use

    Table of Contents:

1.) Determining which exploit(s) you can use by Wii System Menu version
    2.) System Menu instructions
3.) Other restrictions by Wii Serial Number and color
    4.) FAQs

    Note:
•This is only to assist you with a soft-mod of your Wii, not the installation of a modchip.
•Currently any and all Wii's are fully hackable one way or another, find out how below.
•For the best compatibility of all games, I suggest updating to Wii System Menu version 4.3 and continuing from there, but you do not have to.

1.) Determining which exploit(s) you can use by Wii System Menu version:
    Spoiler warning:

•The first step when attempting to hack your Wii is to find out which Exploit you can use to run the HackMii installer and install the Homebrew Channel (HBC), BootMii, PriiLoader and all of the other goodies.
To do so, you will need to find out your current System Menu version. You will find this by going to “Wii Options” and then “Wii Settings”. You will find the version number in the top right corner e.g. "Ver. 4.1U", "Ver. 3.2E", etc.

•U, E, J or K specifies your region, as United States, Europe, Japan or Korea.
Once you find this number find your instructions in the below post.

•Once you have chosen which Exploit to use (can be used), specific tutorials covering just that can easily be found. If you would rather not spend time making up your mind over all of your choices, "Smash Stack" is compatible with all Wii's regardless of s/n and System Menu version and in my opinion was rather simple when I used it last.

    2.) System Menu Instructions:
    Spoiler warning:

•System Menu Ver. 3.0 and below:
    Spoiler warning:

Each game you buy will have two partitions on the disk: 1, the game itself and 2, the appropriate system update. These updates are for both compatibility with the game and to block out hackers such as yourself. Chances are that you don’t have a version this low, but on the off chance that you’re reading this, my suggestion is to update to at least version 3.1. Borrow a game from a friend, rent a game or simply connect your console to the internet and Nintendo will make you update. Next, move on to another System Menu tutorial below and follow the directions related to your situation. There are hacks available though, such as: Twilight Hack

Others are not explained as well nor are as straight forward to bother with.

    •System Menu Ver. 3.1 – 4.1:
    Spoiler warning:

On this system menu version you may use any one of these exploits:
(Click the name to find out more)
    http://wiibrew.org/wiki/Twilight_Hack”]Twilight Hack[/URL]
There are two versions of the Twilight Hack, one for Ver. 3.3 and below, and one of Ver. 3.4 only

    Indiana Pwns
    Smash Stack
    Bannerbomb
    Yu-Gi-OWNED! – (PAL consoles only)
    Yu-Gi-Vah - (NTSC-U and NTSC-J consoles only)

    •System Menu Ver. 4.2:
    Spoiler warning:

On this system menu version you may use any one of these exploits:
(Click the name to find out more)
    Bannerbomb Alpha - v2
    Indiana Pwns
    Smash Stack
    Yu-Gi-OWNED! – (PAL consoles only)
    Yu-Gi-Vah - (NTSC-U and NTSC-J consoles only)

    •System Menu Ver. 4.3:
    Spoiler warning:

On this system menu version you may use any one of these exploits:
(Click the name to find out more)

    Bathaxx
    Indiana Pwns
    Smash Stack
    LetterBomb
    Return of the Jodi
    Wilbrand
    Eri HaKawai
    Yu-Gi-OWNED! – (PAL consoles only)
    Yu-Gi-Vah - (NTSC-U and NTSC-J consoles only)

3.) Other restrictions by Wii Serial Number and color.
    Spoiler warning:

•Depending on when your Wii was produced, Nintendo has altered the hardware to restrict certain things. The s/n can be found on one side of the Wii console, but only the first four or five characters matter. e.g. "LU30", "LEH64", "LAH44", "LKM32", "LJF74, etc.".
Also The Black Edition and Red Editions have restrictions.

    ◦.
    ◦North America (LU)
    ◦Europe (LE), (LEH)
    ◦Australia (LAH)
    ◦Japan (LJF), (LJH)
    ◦Korea (LKM)
    ◦.
•Locate your Serial number (s/n) and read below, click the links, to find out if Nintendo screwed you:
    ◦.
    ◦Boot2 compatible Wii's:

    ◦Read burned disks:
    Spoiler warning:

s/n LU64+ cannot read burned disks, USB loading is the only option.
Assumedly all below LU64 are safe.

    ◦Black Wii's:
    Spoiler warning:

These Wii's cannot play games burned to DVD. (USB loading is still available)
The Black Wii will come with System Menu Ver. 4.3 So read above for your options.

    ◦Red Wii's:
    Spoiler warning:

See restrictions for Black Wii above.

    4.) FAQs
    Spoiler warning:

•Q. What does [insert word/phrase] mean?
◦A. All Wii related terms are explained here: WiiBrew
•Q. Now that I know which Exploit to use, whats next?
◦A. There are several tutorials here on EP, but if you cannot find a tutorial for your specific exploit, http://www.WiiHacks.com/forum.php Has a guide for any that you need. The staff is not so friendly though...
•Any other questions, I will add to the list.

You don't have Letterbomb or Wilbrand under system menu 4.3, just a heads up.

A bunch more exploits and link added to Wii System Menu version 4.3
A few of them fit within the previous versions, but the main pages don't list each and every version the exploits support.
I suggest anyone hacking their Wii for the first time to update to 4.3 since it is just as easily hacked as any other but has the best compat with new games.
