well ps3 revived and installed the brand new Waninkoko 3.55 CFW and it works like a charm.

Install OFW then use recovery menu (NOT factory menu) to update the waninkoko cfw

I thought about installing it but I don't use the PSN so it doesn't serve much purpose for the moment, that, and the complaints of the possibility of killing the console make me iffy .

I've got a first model 20GB; I won't need to worry about my firmware until Ar Tonelico 3 is out anyway.

I forgot to include this in my previous post:
    Sonic 4 (PSN game) decrypted.

Still waiting for these hacks to be as user friendly as the PSP CFW before I jump in, my 60gb PS3 is just waiting to be hacked.

    Are you using multiman v1.14?

That's the latest one and seems to be working fine. They also say in the previous versions that you may need to run the fix permissions.pkg file.

Just a heads up for everyone that still wants to run homebrew and backups. Don't update to the 3.56 firmware. There's reports that if you directly update to that from a CFW, it'll brick your console.

What if you put the 3.55 OFW on there first, then update? Will it still brick or will it just get rid of homebrew and backup capability?

Yeah, that should be fine. I mean, you're going from one OFW to another. But don't come back complaining that is still bricked your console =p. I just don't know if that's a guaranteed workaround.

I understand. I didn't really read some posts I should've, I was unaware there was a workaround for getting on PSN, which is what I was going for.

However, I can't seem to install any .pkg anymore..
