Chrono Cross Freezing

I've been having trouble running Chrono Cross using PSX. Right after inserting the second disk, I start a fight and PSX freezes. The cmd window gives me something like "r3000 illegal operation", scrolling down the cmd window really fast.

What is r3000, and is there any way to fix it?

Which version of pSX was it?
Either the Bios you're currently using is invalid, or the image files was a bad rip.
Are you using NTSC version of the game?

Just a thought, are you using Linux?
If not, I suggest switch over to ePSXe.
