Default Japanese games on us dreamcast?

I know you need the Utopia boot disk for original games, but what about selfboot copies?

If you have real other region games you can use the Gameshark to boot them .

For me so far, all pirated self boot copies work for me, no boot disk or anything needed. Though, take a look on the bottom of you DreamCast and look for a number 1, or a number 2. If you have a number 2, it's possible you'll need a boot disk even for the self booters. If it's a number 1, jump right into the game.

There would be more issues with PAL games that don't have 60Hz supported but most do anyway

If you are wanting info on Dreamcast models, there is a guide to what Dreamcast will work with selfbooting CD's (Mil-CD's) over at http://www.epforums.org/showthread.php?t=54893

The guide will tell you what type of selfboots work with your dreamcast

there are 2 types of selfboot/mil-cd, though if your dreamcast can run Utopia it should be able to run Mil-CD's as Utopia is a Mil-CD, though there is more than one type of Mil-CD
