Default What's to stop emuparadise from getting shut?/CNN is shit/Libra's daft.

As the topic clearly states, what's to stop free ROM sites from getting shut down? Emuparadise has been online for ages and it's a great site. My question is why hasn't it been attempted to be shut down?

Companies like Sega obviously don't give a shit, but Nintendo is notorious when it comes to piracy of their games. Nintendo even shut down Cherryroms a while ago, which was a very popular site for SNES ROMs. Why haven't sites like Emuparadise or Freeroms been shut down? Have they just been really lucky, or are they doing something to avoid potential legal trouble?

VERY curious. And please don't cite the 24 hour evaluation period law, because there is no such law. Thanks.

Well if the servers are in India and Malaysia. I don't think the North American countries (CANADA and the U.S.) can really ban the site. But I know jack so no own believe me :'(

The shear power of my will.

Also, Canada can damn well close a site. Or at least cut traffic to it. I submit the case of Demonoid.

Oh, and complying to the ESA cease and desist orders.

you cant submit the case of demonoid. it was hosted in canada so canada could shut it down...bastards and whatnot and the fact that its not actually illegal. but canada cant shut down a site in india. also video games arent like movies and music so the mafiaa doesnt give a shoot and they're the ones shutting everything down.

    He said "ban the site".

You could also think back on when Canadian traffic was asked to be blocked.

    Etc etc etc. L2read.

I think he was going with the topic of shutting it down, but didn't use the right term.

Evans, you said "canada can damn well close a site" which doesnt apply to sites out of canada everything else you said is correct.

Never said Canada had legal powers outside of its own boundaries either.

Demonoid wasn't shut down by canada, though, they shut themselves down out of fear of lawsuits. They fled like little bitches beneath the towering might of the Canadian record companies.
As I was walking down the stair,
    I met a man who wasn't there.
    He wasn't there again today.
    I wish, I wish he'd go away.

    This is true. ^

Also, emuparadise loses a lot of attention by not having any warez and porn anywhere in its site.

They kept getting threatened by the CRIA was it? A few times actually. The first they found another way but wasn't their ISP threatened to be sued or something of the matter? If being a pussy means not being sued out the ass, then I don't know what is.

I heard they might come back online soon, but damn...
