My Phillips reads CDs and pretty much everything else.

    Utter bull-shit.

Thomson is the worst drive for compatibility some are compatible with many brands of DVD'rs others aren't (mine seems to have loaded everything I've put in it *fingers crossed*)

Samsung drives read any DVD'rs, not compatible with any CD'rs though.

Phillips is the only drive that reads CD'rs and I'm sure it's quite compatible with most DVD'rs as well.

A friend of mine has a Philips, and it won't read anything. He has to FTP everything to his HD. It won't even read my DVD's that play fine on my Samsung.

So yeah, Philips are not reliable. I'm glad you guys have good ones though

I wasn't trying to prove anyone wrong, I was just stating a fact from my experience of having a Phillips drive. I'm pretty sure my son's Xbox with a Samsung drive reads Cds as well, I'd have to check to be certain.

My Samsung will read CD-R's fine. It's the CD-RW's that it refuses to read

Every Samsung I've had or come into contact with has not read CD'rs at all.

I've had bad Thomson drives that have read barely little to non of my DVD'rs but the one I have now seems to be decent.

I've never personally experienced a Phillips drive in a modded Xbox, the only time I had one the box was not modded.

Heh heh heh. Phillips are the best drives to get I believe, followed by Samsung then Thomson.

Maybe it differs from region of the consoles.

Anyway, if you have a 02/03 Xbox with a Samsung it'll be the horrible drive that barely reads anything at all. (I have one of these in a drawer, horrible drive.)
