    It relies a bit on computer and math knowledge.. Christmas is Dec 25 and Halloween is Oct 31. Dec and Oct are computer terms for the Base 10 and Base 8 counting systems.

    25 in base 10 is equivalent to 31 in base 8.

    Depends on the formatting, but Dec25 = Oct31 would be valid. They might be looking for something different, but that's how I'd lay it out if I was programming.

    Actually, if it's an IT sort of equation there should be two equal signs, not one.

    Probably not what they're looking for.
