Default Problem with Scandisk on Windows ME

I'm having an annoying problem on my Windows Millennium Edition PC where when I run scandisk with thorough setting clicked and when it starts scanning the data area it only gets to about cluster 36,000 out of about 1,220,000 clusters and the whole thing freezes. What is the problem. If anyone knows what I can do, please help me. Thanks!

WinME? Oh wow... heh, that's ME for you I suppose

Go to start > Run > and type "chkdsk C: /F"

That should open checkdisk in MS-DOS. Should be a lot more reliable.

Hey, I did what you said, but I got a message in MS-DOS sayig this:

"chkdsk has not checked this drive for errors. You must use SCANDISK to detect and fix errors on this drive"

But the problem is, I can't get SCANDISK to work completely. And my computer is real slow and needs errors fixed badly. What other options do I have?

Slowness doesn't actually mean errors. Try this instead:

Go to start > programs > accessories > disk defragmentor.

Sorry, I haven't used a DOS based version of windows, much less ME, in quite some time, so it may not be exactly. Run that, probably twice, and see if it helps. You could also try my old guide here:

Or nuke ME and get windows 2000

And, this may be a bit off topic, but do you know where to download any installation packages for Microsoft Office 2000 Professional edition?

I have a problem on my WinME where it says I need to re-install Office 2000 Pro, but the sad thing is I don't have the disc for it.

The PC is an old as hell one my friend gave me, which it didn't include any discs with it.

I've tried Google and other search engines, but all I get is updates and service packs for Office 2000.

Edit: And sorry for the double post, I forgot that I can edit my last post, but I didn't realize it until I posted this one.

That is getting into warez, and we don't allow that sort of stuff here.

    Oh, ok.

Yeah, I've heard of warez but I'm not too sure what they are. What are they, illegal copies of software that isnt freeware?
