Why use both software when Alcohol 120% has an in-built Virtual Drive?

if alcohol isn't recognizing the image now what makes you think it can mount it correctly?

Daemon Toolz? Ok how do I do that? (please let it be idiot-proof! )

Right-click on the icon, and take it from there.

There's several options here and I literally have no idea what I'm doing. How do I use this to get Alcohol to accept my Shenmue 2 download?

You should try and check out "all those options" to familiarize yourself with Daemon Tools.

But here's the quick way for how to mount ISO's:

LEFT-Click on the icon, click where it says "Device blah-blah-blah Empty", and double-click the .mds file (the smaller of the 2)

If the mds/mdf file doesn't mount, then there's something wrong.

After I clicked the smaller of the 2 nothing happens. Apparently it has mounted but it's not doing anything. If I right-click the Daemon Toolz icon now it does say, after clicking the Virtual CD tab, that the Shenmue file is in there though. But no, nothing's happening.

Oh hold on a second, I tried a PS1 file instead and it seems to work with that. It's just this Shenmue 2 thing that isn't working.

Well, nothing's happening because nothing's supposed to happen when all you've done is just mount a DC game to Daemon Tools.

So, now what you need to do is use Alcohol to rip a new copy from the mounted ISO.

Then use Alcohol to burn the new copy.

Ok, after mounting it, I went back to Alcohol and reselected but it still says the same thing - unrecognised. Am I perhaps doing the wrong thing by reselecting it? I assumed it would now be mounted and would therefore work.

No, no, you don't want to mount it to Alcohol too.

Instead, open Alcohol > File > Image Making Wizard > under CD/DVD device, select the letter for Daemon Tools virtual drive (mine is J:)

Then for Datatype, select Play Station (because I think that's the one for Raw/DAO which is what you need for DreamCast, but I'm not 100% sure)

Then go to Next > choose where you want to save the new mds/mdf file and click Start.

At least that's how you do it with Alcohol 52% but I don't believe it's different from how you do it with Alcohol 120%.

Ok I'm following your instructions exactly and am currently at 5% burnt! I'll let you know if it's a success at the end.

EDIT - Oh wow I don't know what to say. I'd never have been able to do that on my own. Thanks a lot for your help!!

Those changes I made to my Alcohol in order to get it to burn Shenmue 2. Do I have to change them back to burn PS1 games like I could before or is it ok to leave?

I finished disc 1, loving it, but I've hit a slight snag again.

I've downloaded disc 2 and it's given a mass load of files. I don't know which one to extract?
