    Default Making that long walk...

Its about that time for me to build a new PC. I love this one like my son, but its getting old.

So long story short im gonna be moving over to Vista. Now what i need to know is there any real reason that someone might actually want to purchase the deluxe version over home basic? Thanks in advance and try to be in-depth with your replies.

You mean the Ultimate version of Home Basic? I think the Ultimate version has transparency themes.

If you have the option, stay with XP. Vista has it's own set of entirely new problems.

    Name 3

Ultimate has everything supported in both home and business versions of Vista. I don't see why you would need anything over home premium

Every piece of hardware I have tried to install on my son's Vista computer has failed for lack of drivers. I don't want to buy a "Vista Ready" webcam when I have 3 or 4 already. It's a camera, Vista should support it. I bought a USB G Wireless station for ease of use because I knew Vista would piss on any card I already had.

I tried to install Prey, which is a fairly recent game. Vista hated on it.

    It's bloatware.

Nothing, that's what most enthusiasts use

When vista was first out that was true, but it has long since matured. I've hooked up 3 different cameras to mine, they all worked fine, and have never had driver trouble, save the x64 wireless drivers which weren't available for winxp x64 either

See above - get the compatibility updates. If that doesn't work patch the game, alot of devs released patches to fix those problems (if they existed, only game I've had issues with is WiC, only under the 32-bit version oddly ).

Vista wasn't meant for older PCs. It performs just as well, if not better, than XP on my rig.

There's a reason that enthusiasts are recommending Vista for new builds

Both the Vista computers are brand new
And they are both riddled with problems.

Make and model? Did you upgrade to vista or did it come out of the box with it?

    Both came with it.

    Son's desktop: Dell AMD X2 w/ 2GB RAM
Wife's laptop: Dell AMD X2 (desktop processor) w/ 2GB RAM

I don't remember the exact speeds, but they're both over +3200's.

I know as far as laptops go OEMs having been screwing up vista with their custom editions, may be the same with desktops. uninstall all updates (CPanel > remove programs and features > view installed updates). Go here and get the performance, reliability and compatibility updates only, screw the "security" updates and hotfixes, they just break shit

See PM as well, that should clear some stuff up.

Dell is notorious for slapping so much shit on their computers that nothing really works right. I've been threatening to format both of them ever since we got them.

The wife's laptop is the most annoying. For no apparent reason, the whole thing will freeze and the screen turns either pink, purple or green. It happens when she's playing Pogo games, when she's just listening to music, and once or twice when it's just sitting there on the desktop.

I bet HP is worse than Dell

One other thing, disable the readyboost and superfetch services, that will drop disk access/usage significantly.

Also I have a torrent if you want it

    Never heard of those options

Actually, I have never done anything more than scream at Vista for being so shitty

I have the discs, so once I get badgered enough, I'll reinstall them.

So you're bashing vista because you're too lazy to really give it a chance At least your not doing it because of the mass hysteria all the M$ bashers have been causing. *looks at Deach*
