btw. I downgraded a psp with the lumines exploit, got it right the first time.
So it must be easy if I've done it.
They're fucking expensive from there. I phoned them today, they wanted £129 for a 2nd hand phat with a couple of games from their cheap range. They cost £129 for a new slim...

I'm looking at the Pandora's battery method as well...

Do you have a CEX nearby? They're £80 in there.

They're £80 second hand @ Gamestation here as well. :/

I've seen a few in the local ad papers for around £80. I was interested in Sprung's psp, but I'm not sure about a UK ac adapter being compatible.

I also have a couple of people interested in having their PSPs modified, so I'd like to try one myself first. I have a good source for the ISOs...48 DVDs worth...

I can get hold of a Pandora Battery with all the necessary files on the memory stick. Once downgraded to V1.5, can I upgrade to 3.71 M33-2 firmware update 3 in one go, or do I have to go through a succession of updates one at a time?

To go to 3.71 you need to first have 3.52 M33-3 or 3.52 M33-4, 'cos Dark Alex couldn't get round a few bugs. So it will take a while, although I don't really think there's much 3.71 has that 3.52-4 doesn't have (XMB changing is all I know really).

If you're gonna get 3.71 you also need to install the Kernal 1.50, 'cos Alex didn't include it on release.

    (I like knowing things )

It is MANDATORY that you upgrade to 3.51 M33-4 and then upgrade to 3.71 M33. This is what the M33 team themselves has said

Edit: SA-X beat me to it Yeah, if you wanna run homebrew, you'll have to install the "1.50 kernel add-on" that is for FAT PSPs ONLY.

Right, I'm not following very well.

Can someone tell me in basic steps how to take an unmodified psp (I presume it has to be phat although slim as well if possible) using the Lumines exploit what software I will need (links if possible can be through PMs) and end up with a psp with the most stable custom firmware to date.

So if I get a version 2.xx firmware, I have to upgrade to 3.50 before using the exploit? And if I understand correctly anything above 3.50 wont work with the Lumines exploit, that'd need the Pandora Battery?

Thanks for your help Astaroth, but I haven't followed the psp scene, so it's all a bit confusing atm. I was looking for a tut that tells me what to do and what software to get rather than a youtube link which I have to keep replaying. The sites I have looked at all assume you know which version firmware and motherboard you have stating that the exploit doesn't work on certain combinations... I wont know this until I pick up a 2nd hand psp.

Edit: I have now bought a cheap phat psp v2.81. I have successfully downgraded to v1.5 using the Lumines exploit. I now need help updating to a newer custom firmware e.g. Dark_AleX's 3.71 M33 and help on how to run ISO's from the memory stick...

Get the 3.52 release, and it'll come with the installation notes, so its easy enough. When thats done, go for the 3.52-4 update, which again will have notes.

When you have that installed you get the 3.71 updater, and get 3.71-3 if you want.

When you've done that, enter Recovery Mode (turn on PSP while holding R) and find the option to turn off UMD detect or whatever its called, or ISOs wont run.

Now, I think you put ISOs in PSP=>Game=>ISO, but I'm not sure, I haven't used it in a while. PM me if you need anything else, I'll just hunt around a bit.

I noticed the 3.52 release has 3 revisions, do I have to install 2 then 3 then 4 or just 2 then 4?
    PSP 3.52 M33-2
    PSP 3.52 M33-3
    PSP 3.52 M33-4

    Thanks for your help SA-X.

    Edit: Thanks Cookie.

Good luck Jack, hopefully you wont get the gay ass errors when you try to go from 3.52 to 3.52-4 like I do ><

EDIT: 3.52 then 3.52-4, no need to do them all

I am currently on ver 3.52 M33-4. I have tried a Sonic ISO that Sprung uploaded, everything seems fine. Is there any major difference upgrading to 3.71 M33?

Thanks to everyone who has replied to this thread, all your input is much appreciated.
