The Last Blade (better than Shodown? I think so)
Kizuna Encounter (one of the first fighters to feature tag battles)
Kabuki Klash (great Samurai Shodown clone marred by shoddy character balance)
Ninja Masters (grim fighter that takes SS3's feel and runs with it. Also lets you switch between armed/unarmed combat without getting unbalanced)

Dragonball Z Hyper Dimension is probably my favourite 2D fighting game, after the Street Fighter vs. X-Men/MVSC/ETC series..

Don't think it was ever released outside Japan, but it doesn't really matter..

    Michael Ballack, he scores free-kicks.
He's got black hair, and he's german.
    Michael Ballack, trains in paddocks.
in his spare time, HE FARMS HADDOCKS!
Watch me play Super C, guys!!

From the Street Fighter series: Street Fighter 2, Street Fighter 3, Street Fighter Alpha 1,2, and 3. Any other ones, especially the bootleg 3-D ones stink.

From the Marvel/Capcom series: Marvel Super Heroes, X-Men Childre of the Atom, X-Men vs Street Fighter, Marvel Super Heroes vs Street Fighter, Marvel vs Capcom, and Marvel vs Capcom 2. The SNK vs Capcom games are pretty good also.

From the Mortal Kombat series: Mortal Kombat 2, Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, Mortal Kombat Trilogy, and Mortal Kombat Deception are the better ones. Anything else stinks.

Um, pretty much any Samurai Shodown game in 2-D is hot. I'm not a huge fan of KoF games, but there are a few characters I think are pretty cool. And Guilty Gear.....really, you cannot go wrong with that series. Great music, gameplay, graphics, etc.
