I took Mensa's little playtest and only scored a bit over half. I feel stupid now.

Actually, I knew I stunk at math before and I didn't even remember what a prime number was, until now. The proverbs are ridiculous though

Don't worry, I didn't get more than 24, either. I also don't see grand beauty in the pictures, either, but I suppose an IQ so many standard deviations off the norm is rather unusual. That said, there are plenty of problems with IQ as a conclusive measurement of intelligence, so...

    Necro: here.

I got, like, less than 20.

The pictures were all too easy, unless I'm forgetting one of them. Well.. hm, I don't remember if I got the square thing right though.

It's shit like the people walking from each other, then turning left I can't deal with. Not without a ruler, anyways.

    I got 23 right.

I guessed right on the time one (I hate those) and made 3 other careless mistakes. Oh well, still a good score.

And the one with the people walking away from each other, that's the pythagorean theorem, so square both numbers, add the answers, and then find the square root of that sum.

    3 squared = 9, 4 squared = 16, 9 + 16 = 25
    square root of 25 = 5.

Then add 5+5 because you're measuring the distance of both hypotunuses.

    So, answer's 10.

IQ is a completely arbitrary way to measure intelligence. To even mention Einstein and IQ in the same sentence shows how ignorant you truly are. Einstein isn't famous because he answered a few questions on a test correctly.
Mensa has as much relevance as the "Child of the Year" awards you can buy for $100.

Also, if you ever call yourself smart without being complimented on it beforehand, you're not smart.

Seconded. IQ also fails to take into account all sorts of other geniuses. You could be an absolutely prolific musician or artist and still end up as 'stupid' by such a test's ranking system. So I don't really take to heart even officially delivered IQ tests. All a high score says, in my opinion, is that you're good at solving a very specific kind of puzzle. I guess that the skills that it grades might be ones that have wide-ranging applications, but...an 'IQ' of 150 doesn't necessarily make you a genius, nor does one of half that make you stupid.

That being said, I like taking these sorts of tests. Not because of any desire to be told if I'm smart or stupid, but simply because I've been doing word and pattern puzzles since I was a kid, and, the label of 'IQ test' aside, it's basically the same thing. I find them fun. I got 25. I lost out on a few of the maths ones. =/ I'm fine with pattern recognition and wordplay, but I really don't like maths. Or...not so much 'don't like' as 'didn't pay much attention to in school'.

As for the topic, ah... I'll just say that some of the responses in the article made me laugh. A lot.
