    Default External Hard drive

I'm getting ready to get an external hard drive, and was wondering what you tech junkies think would be a good brand to go for.

    Goin for 160-320 gig.

Can't go wrong with Seagate or Western Digital...

You planning a pre-made one or are you buying an internal HD + enclosure?

    most likely a premade one.

I had been looking at a lot of Western Digital, as well as Samsung. Hadn't looked at Seagates yet.

I have 3 external USB drives, two of them being Seagate FreeAgent drives. They are nice drives and very affordable. (The 500GB only cost me $119)

Western Digital. They have always been sexier looking than those clunky seagates, although in quality they are equal.

Have you seen those shiny pocket portable Western Digitals they got, those are really sexy. Also USB powered. I think they go up to 120GB as of right now. Idk if I've seen these in 240GB yet or not..

I don't understand why people don't just use internal hard drives. Fair enough if all your SATA/IDE slots are used, but I doubt they are.

External hard drives can be transported between computers with less hassle and aren't THAT much more expensive.

I have 4 hard drives and 2 optical drives. There's not enough room for them to all be internal :eyeball:

I have 6 SATA ports and 2 IDE channels.

    = 6 SATA HDDs & 3 IDE HDDs & 1 IDE DVD-RW?

    I don't. Hence, external drives.

    PCI sata card.

I'd only think of 1 external HDD as acceptable, for moving files from PC to PC. Anything more than that and you're being ridiculous.

im gonna have to agree with this point.... 1 should be enough if ur just moving from pc to pc... i always found external hard drives a nuisance tho... gotta plug em in and theyre kinda on the largish side..., however some of the external 2.5" enclosures that are usb powered.... theyre not too bad

its all up to personal preference and what exactly you need it for tho

Sure, buy some more slot filling stuff to make more hard drives fit. Oh, better buy a bigger power supply too...and maybe some power cord splitters.

Or, you can use a USB port
