I don't know if you think this qualifies as one or have mentioned it, but DesktopX is a neat program and is free. You can make really sweet desktops, with animations and things called "Widgets" and have a lot of fun with them. You can also download premade ones. I used it before, but it wasn't my thing. They're really neat though. =]

    Minimize to Tray
Minimize To Tray lets you minimize running applications to the system tray, which helps to increase free space in the taskbar. To minimize any application to the system tray, simply right-click the minimize button or left-click on it while pressing [Shift]. You can also use Minimize To Tray to quickly hide all running applications except those listed in the Filter settings using a predefined hotkey.

    GammaSutra
GammaSutra allows you to quickly change the gamma on your screen in two different ways. Either click on the little icon in the system tray and drag the slider that pops up, or define hotkeys that can be used to increase and decrease the gamma. Useful to change gamma quickly when in a game.

    NetMeter

    Kill Winamp
Kill Winamp does not, as the name might suggest, kill Winamp. It either closes Winamp or stops the current song playing or it can shut your computer down (it will power off, if supported by hardware) after a certain number of minutes or songs played. It does not require Winamp in order to turn off the computer.

Yes, sadly. It's free though, so you shouldn't have a problem with getting your computer full of this pesky StarForce drivers and services.

AVG isn't freeware anymore; it appears it's a $50 program now. You can still get the free trials for 30 days though.

That version has never been free? It's always just been AVG Free that's been free.
